We have tried so hard to like this place. Living locally, we would’ve loved to support it more but I’d say one visit out of 4 has gone well. The first time, 3 yrs ago, the music was awful and piped thru’ speakers right above our heads. When I mentioned it I was told that nobody else had complained so it wouldn’t change (even though we were one of only two tables filled that night/time of day). The next time we tried it was for Sunday lunch, about 8 mo later). That was very good - nice hot food with great veg. However that chef seems to be gone now. The last two visits has seen a limited choice in food for me with the most recent being the worst (last weekend). Quite remarkably awful was the “Dauphinoise Potatoes” which looked like a small slice of Mr. Kipling cake and tasted similar. The mixed veg seemed frozen and the wine list, limited. My husband is done; he won’t be giving it another chance. I gave 3 stars for the lovely cocktails made by Luke who runs the restaurant. I know it’s a struggle to get good staff locally and he’s doing his best but this place could be so much more. There’s a little table outside - nice to sit in the dusk sunshine while waiting for your table - but it’s not stable so careful not to spill your drinks - especially if it’s in a martini glass! A few smiles and friendly conversation would...
Read moreWe’ve been only twice before, for Sunday breakfast and a set menu dinner, which were extremely good. This time there were 4 of us, 2 had the gourmet deal 3 courses for £33 which we were told about before we ordered, never heard of before we got there. Fantastic food, I don’t know how they get 4 different mains out at once, all absolutely perfectly done. Scallops..what can I say..heaven. Dessert - Chocolate ball with ice cream inside, chocolate sauce, home made? honeycomb and more chocolate. More heaven. Bit of a mix up with the deal and should have been told that some of our choices had supplement charge (we did ask again re fillet but was told included). Brilliant food, lovely surroundings, tablecloths, very good service. Extremely good value. It’s just so nice to find a place where you know that everything - surroundings, service and food - are going to be great, every time. Best...

In honour of another visit today (which I am extremely excited about), I thought I would post this incredible lunch I had back in August at @softleys !
We opted for the set lunch menu which is £21.50 for 2 courses or £26.50 for 3 courses - menu attached.
What I ordered: • Salmon and Chive Fishcake ❤️ • Softleys Shepherds Pie • Chocolate Brownie ❤️
All three dishes were incredible, with the starter and dessert being my favourite. You can tell that the ingredients used are fresh and of such a high quality. A real treat!
The staff at Softleys are so attentive and extremely welcoming. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes it the perfect place for any special occasion - ours was a mother daughter lunch. An all-round lovely experience 🤍.
I really felt wined and dined (which I never thought could be done at lunchtime) and I cannot wait to go back...
