My daughter and I visited today for a late breakfast/brunch. The young lady on the counter was helpful with food suggestions etc, chatty and polite. After this, everything was grim . . We had no option but to dine upstairs ( it was raining so balcony not in use) so just 4 tiny tables right in front of food prep. 2 tables were in use and the other 2 were piled high with dirty plates/cups etc . . Id have happily removed to a shelf/trolley myself had 1 been available ( as some other chain eateries use) but there is nowhere to do so? I have chronic rheumatoid arthritis so had already struggled with the stairs so certainly wasn't going to struggle back down with previous diners leftovers. I politely asked the "chef" if there was somewhere to stack and he said he'd "get someone" but carried on preparing food. When my daughter arrived with the drinks ( obviously there was nowhere to put them) so "chef" had to remove them himself. Whilst we were eating, a staff member came upstairs to ask chef something, glanced at another table full of leftovers and took a couple of cups away STILL leaving stuff behind. This isn't the vibe I'm after when paying so much . . I checked on our way out, it wasn't even that busy downstairs. . I'm not in a rush...
Read moreAmazing place. Visited on Saturday 9/7/23 at around 1pm. Had a coffee and 2 cakes (couldn’t decide) and it was delicious. It looks amazing there. The only problem (easily fixable) is that they were a bit slow at clearing and cleaning the tables. The tables needed a good wipe with a damn cloth as well as the seats. There was food under some tables too. Not sure why the staff wouldn’t check the floor. The place looks very professional but the staff was dressed very very casually. Almost too casually. Some had scruffy t-shirts and jeans. It’s alright for home or pub drink after work. But it doesn’t look good at a public workplace. If they had a nice uniform, or same colour themed and style outfit then it would have made such a difference on the overall look and feel. I love this place and will be visiting regularly. Im sorry for the criticism. But the business wonder can make it look even better by fixing these little but important details. Lots of love and good luck to this lovely place. I hope it does really well here in beautiful...
Read moreGail’s just opened a couple of days ago, so we paid them our first visit on day 5.
First of all, the food and drinks are amazing. We’ve never been to a Gail’s before; the hot chocolate was very good and the coffee very nice. The plain scone was perfect, crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.
The chocolate and hazelnut bun was divine - cram packed with that yummy choc/nut filling - one of the best buns I’ve ever eaten to be honest.
Macy and Andrea were so welcoming - Macy is quite young but we were very impressed by her customer service skills - we had a lovely chat with her. Andrea was very friendly and welcoming.
And to put the cherry on the top of the amazing cake, on our way out we were offered some complimentary bread. We chose the potato and rosemary and it was delicious.
In terms of improvements - the downstairs seating area could do with some pictures on the walls and generally just finishing off. Just a minor point.
Suffice to say we...
