Doge Sushi — Restaurant in Huntingdonshire

TL;DR: Wonderful food, long wait, amendable to ingredient omissions. Overall happy!

As an American who lived in a city for 20 years, I have been very disappointed with the lack of/disappointing sushi options in St. Neots (VVaitrose sushi is an abomination). I get it when I go into London, but that's not as often as I want sushi.

In desperation after a bad day, I did a Google search, not expecting to find anything, and voila! I find Doge Sushi, a small takeaway in Huntingdon that delivers (minimum order £25) to the surrounding towns for an additional fee (£4 to St. Neots) and a longer wait. But, I wanted it, so I jumped in.

Doge does not have a website, nor is it on the delivery apps. The menu is in the pictures on their Facebook page and you have to order via a WhatsApp message. They take only cash or bank transfer to the business account. These things are all outside my norm, but the reviews are good and I REALLY wanted sushi.

I ordered two rolls, sashimi, and edamame and requested no mayo on anything (what's with Brits and mayo?!). My food arrived after ~1.5 hours (I was informed of this wait when I ordered.). Everything was bagged up nicely and I was given chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. The food was arranged aesthetically.

I ate everything, didn't leave a grain of rice. It was delicious and the portion sizes were very reasonable. I am a salmon fanatic and the sashimi appetiser was extremely generous and fresh. I haven't had decent sushi in awhile, so this really made my day.

Just a few things to be aware of when you order, because if you made it this far, you're committed: my assumption is this is a very small business owned and operated by a couple. This is reflected in the wonderful quality and care they took in preparing and delivering my food. It was also reflected in the long wait and odd system of ordering. If you're in Huntington, pickup is probably much faster. If you're outside Huntingdon, order well before you want to eat and get to ordering ASAP because when they get busy (and they will), I can see them needing to stop/limit the outer delivery area.

Also, some of the menu items have different ingredients than I would expect (mayo), so just make sure to read descriptions for the rolls so you don't end up with something you don't want. They were wonderful about omitting the mayo for me.

All in all, it was a great experience. I look forward to ordering...

A lovely takeaway resturaunt where I had my first taste of sushi that came from a small, independent business! Though I did immensely enjoy the food that was given to me-- which included but was not limited to: Miso Soup, Spicy Crunchy California Roll, Duck Duck Roll, and last but by no means least, Iced Mando Paradise, I did think that the owners need to think a bit more on how the products are delivered. For instance, for the Miso Soup, it was delivered in a cofee cup which came in a plastic bag-- most probably to prevent spillages. It was much the same for the Iced Mango paradise-- albeit this was a completely plastic cup. This meant that there was some spillage coming from the bags given that they weren't always upright-- and for this reason, I feel it may have been more appropriate to have them delivered in a cupholder of some description to prevent such spillages from happening. We've had Doge Sushi now several times, so I thought I'd write another review now we've sampled a lot of the menu 😂.

Doge Sushi is excellent. Easily the best sushi around. Excellent prices for the amazing quality of food! We've tried the various sushi types, as well as things like the Poke Bowls, Gyoza and Chicken. It's all fantastic! Never had a bad meal from them. The fish is always fresh and incredibly tasty and the rice is perfection! 😋

The big combo packs are really worth it-they have really good selections for a great price!

We use the delivery service they offer, as we're in a small village. It's incredibly easy to order over whatsapp, and delivery is always on time and fast! Make sure to have cash on you if you use their delivery-as delivery is cash only.
