Applaud Coffee — Restaurant in Ipswich

I have been a loyal customer since applaud first opened and often visit for their delicious coffee/food/cake and it has a special place in my heart. So of course when I recently got married I thought who better than the applaud team to make me some whole cakes for the day. I ordered a chocolate and honeycomb cake, a lemon Lizzie and some millionaire shortbreads (untraditional wedding cake but something for everyone) There was not a crumb of cake or shortbread left and was the fraction of the cost of a 'proper' wedding cake which for a smaller wedding budget was perfect. A really cosy coffee shop, filled with extremely polite, welcoming staff. This coffee shop is simply a great little place to stop off and enjoy a fantastic selection of coffees, cakes and a very appealing lunch menu which is frequently updated.

The food itself (sweet potato and coconut soup, served with homemade toasted bread), was extremely satisfying and full of flavour. Also, a very attractive looking dish.

Blankets are supplied, should you wish to take a seat in the garden area, which is a nice touch.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this quaint, welcoming coffee shop. I will definitely...

First time visiting Applaud, and as far as I am aware they have come under new management recently.

The food and service was lovely, but struck me as rather overpriced. I paid £8 for a sandwich, which was nice but served on its own with nothing else, and I think £5-6 would've been more reasonable. I also bought an orange juice, which was £4.30 for a very small glass. It was freshly squeezed, but still!

The staff were lovely and the café and outdoor seating area is beautiful, but I probably wouldn't return as I think the prices are just that bit too high. Such a shame as I always try to support...
