From start to finish, the experience was incredibly disappointing. The staff were extremely pushy, asking us roughly every two minutes to order over a 10-minute period — even though it was clear we were still reading the menus. We later discovered that the restaurant only had four menus total for around 30–40 guests, meaning each table had to take turns waiting for one. Completely disorganised.
When we ordered drinks, there was only a very limited selection of wines by the glass, and the Coke was completely flat. After politely asking for it to be changed, we received two new glasses — both flat again.
For starters, we had the duck, which was extremely dry and difficult to eat. The mains were mixed: some were passable, others not. The Mongolian lamb was full of bones, and one person in our group almost broke a tooth. We returned the dish but received no apology whatsoever — just a curt “we’ll take it back to the kitchen.”
By that point, we simply wanted to leave. When we asked for the bill, we were given a non-itemised receipt, listing only total amounts for food and drinks. That’s completely unprofessional — customers should be able to see exactly what they’re paying for. After paying, I requested an itemised receipt and discovered that we had in fact been overcharged.
Be sure to check your receipts carefully. Between the disorganisation, poor food quality, and lack of customer service, we will absolutely not...
Read moreHave had take away from here before which has always been amazing! Last night we went for dinner to celebrate an engagement & 10yr anniversary, there was 13 of us in total. Absolutely incredible! Family run business- you can tell they take pride and joy in looking after their customers and making sure you have a pleasant experience. Cannot fault anything. We had the chefs choice which included gorgeous starters, mains and dessert. I am allergic to shellfish so couldnt have the spring rolls, Lucy brought me some vegetable spring rolls out instead so I didnt feel I was missing out. They are constantly filling your glass up, which was another lovely touch... dont think I poured myself a glass of wine at all. Even with a full restaurant you always feel your a priority. Honestly amazing and already planning a return... well done Trongs!! Also what's nice about the takeaway service is if they are busy (which they usually are!!! So make sure you book early) they won't take any more orders as they pride themselves on good food and don't want to risk it being of poor standard because they are busy.... says a lot to me!! 100% you've got to dine in and experience this gorgeous...
Read moreYesterday was my second visit to Trong's. Though I turned up rather spontaneously and didn't have a dinner reservation, I was given a time that a table would be ready. Upon returning, a table was swiftly granted served with water immediately.
I rarely visit the same restaurant twice. The setting and the staff are so welcoming, it made me want to return. I tried the Vietnamese Spring Rolls (fried) and the taste was far beyond my expectations. I truly recommend these: The spring roll melts in the mouth on bite and taste oozes from every bite thereafter. They were so good I tried to ask for the secret from the man I believe to be the manager/owner. He revealed the story of the delicacy... it was his mother's recipe, it was a satisfying to hear such an honest answer with so much history.
During my stay in Ipswich and visiting multiple restaurants - Trong's provide the best quantity and quality for the price you are paying. The family nature of the staff truly makes this a comforting experience serving comfort food whilst I am...
