I googled the woolpack before we set off on our forty minute walk to get there; I wanted to check what time they served food until. Although I didn't find the serving times on my phone, the web page stated they were child and dog friendly. We already knew this! We were once regulars and over the past year had been to a breakfast and quiz nights with our teenage daughter. On arrival at around 8:30, I asked for menus thinking we may need to order ASAP and was told food was served until 10pm. When we ordered a second round of drinks we also tried to place our food order at 9:10pm. We were told by the barmaid that no under 18's were allowed in after 9pm. I said it was a shame we hadn't been told this before when we asked initially. The barmaid barked a comment over a busy bar showing a complete lack of professionalism. Rather stunned by the complete lack of customer service, I wasn't quick witted enough to inform the barmaid it was in fact her who told us about the food arrangements. Before leaving, I spoke with the manageress, who was apologetic. I explained, as customers, we had done all we could to ensure we could eat. Our daughter had been with us and visible since we arrived and it should have been no surprise to her or her team our intentions to eat which had been clear from the very start. The fact that we've attended quiz nights with our daughter, leaving the premises nearer to 10pm didn't seem to register and left us rather confused as to the woolpacks policy on children. It seems we are welcome on a Sunday night and a leisurely breakfast fitting the family friendly theme but when it is a drink fuelled Saturday, they do not...
Read moreFirst day of our week off from wotk, I insisted on heading to the woolpack for lunch, husband had a breakfast early, so we agreed to grab a cab so he could enjoy a beer while i ordered food. I ordered smoked mackerel pate for a starter and a burger for main.. 25 mins later both meals arrived! I sent back the main course and the waitress confirmed that she had ordered the meals with a starter main divide. I had to add olives and olive oil to the starter as the crostini bread was crumbling on the floor with every bite.. more like stale croutons..quite disgusting. Then 35 minutes later the same dry burger reappeared for my main..which i rejected. High end prices for poor service and half arsed cooking, without the location, your standards wouldn't fly in any catering facility. Im hungry and getting another taxi to a decent venue. You are unbelievably poor but the middle class love you, possibly think your quirky?? I dont know.. but you cant deliver the basics, warm wine at £10 a glass and heat fermented condiments, with price marked ketchup including price marked spirits.. surely the posh are not this...
Read moreHaving driven past this charming looking pub many times but never venturing in, it was meant to be when groupon offered a breakfast deal there. My wife and I got there as they opened at 09.30 and were greeted warmly by the Landlord. We told him we were redeeming the groupon voucher and he explained that it entitled us to the full English breakfast. We ordered two. The hot chocolate my wife ordered was presented beautifully and tasted superb, she even got a top up. Our breakfasts arrived swiftly and looked splendid. The ingredients seemed high quality and were cooked perfectly. We couldn't fault anything and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The pub itself is really charming whilst being inviting and clean. When summer rolls round this year after a day enjoying Christchurch park ( which is opposite ) a drink on the way home at this family friendly pub is to be...
