We thought we would give the refurbished George a try as we used to go in ouur younger days. Perhaps we shouldn't have opted for a Saturday night to dine out, but we only travel down from Scotland periodically. The place is a generic, modern with the usual minimalistic trend. My partner waited 10 mins at the bar to be served then when it was his turn to order ALL 3 bar staff left the bar. One returned after approx 5 mins and went to serve another new customer, luckily he informed the bar man we were next! We waited 15 mins then finally managed to speak to a waitress, we were a party of 4 adults and 2 children. Drinks ordered as we sat, 20 mins to arrive, food ordered 30 mins to arrive, patè a little bitter and salmon fishcakes a bit too padded with potato. We had to attract the waitress again to remove our plates. Main course 20 mins, chicken burgers were large enough to fill a hungry stomach, chips were either double fried or left in the oil, uneaten by 3 of us, sweet potato fries were good. Mushroom burger was ok, assessed as a little flat. Sirloin steak verging on well done rather than the medium requested. Sadly my burger contained a rather long hair. We had to ask again for our repeated drinks order. By this time it was 9.55 and we were a little fed up so decided against dessert. Conversation was limited as we initially sat down, due to a well inebriated young man who though singing aloud the same line of a song over and over rather funny. The noise level increased as time went on, we finally went to find a waitress in order to pay our bill. I voiced some concerns, but we had many and forgot to mention the hair..... I was informed 2 staff hadn't arrived for work so they were short staffed. Perhaps it would be advisable to inform customers of problems to avoid the disappointment we...

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this establishment does not prioritize professionalism or customer satisfaction. Service was unacceptably slow, and the staff openly argued with one another in full view of guests, creating an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere.
The food quality was equally disappointing. The gammon was so excessively salty it was inedible, the chicken was overcooked to the point of being rubbery, and the beef was tough and leathery. The “gravy” was nothing more than thin, watery liquid, entirely lacking flavor or substance. Side dishes were no better — the mashed potatoes were unmistakably instant, bland and lifeless, while the so-called “roast potatoes” were soggy and poorly prepared.
Pricing practices raise additional concerns. A simple children’s milk was inexplicably charged at £2.50, and the sharing platter, which advertises an included drink, was billed with an additional charge. This lack of transparency feels misleading at best.
Desserts provided no redemption. The options offered were clearly microwaved, and the ice cream contained large shards of ice, further evidence of careless preparation.
Perhaps most troubling was the dismissive attitude of the staff when concerns were raised. Unless you meet their idea of a “valued” customer, complaints appear to be brushed aside without genuine consideration.
In summary, this was a profoundly disappointing experience. Between the poor service, substandard food, questionable pricing, and dismissive customer care, I cannot in good conscience recommend this bistro. There are far better options in the area — this establishment is...
Read moreWe have visited George's before and had always enjoyed it. Having being very careful throughout the pandemic due to health issues we decided to go somewhere for a drink on Sunday. Having driven past George's a few times since pubs were allowed to reopen I had noticed how well organised it appeared to be. So we decided to give it a try.
Usually you have to book to make sure tables are available but fortunately there was one free. After signing in and sanitising out hands we were taken to a table (social distancing observed). Shortly after we were approached to order drinks which arrived promptly and payment made by card. We noted that as people left, the tables were immediately cleared and sanitised. We had a lovely conversation with Hannah who updated us on what was happening writing George's and how they were working with the guidelines. We are pizza which was brought out to the beer garden in take out style boxes. Gorgeous Diavola pizza and nachos.
Thoroughly enjoyed my first trip to a pub since March and felt completely confident about my safety.
Great work Hannah and staff. Credit to you all. Highly...
