Tried The Marsh for Sunday Lunch. I was recommended this place a while back but only got chance to try it recently.
Rang to see if any available tables and managed to get in straight away for my husband and I.
Sat in the conservatory, menu was labelled as being a temporary outdoor menu although dining is now inside.
Quite a few choices available at reasonable prices. I think the menu items would benefit from a bit of explanation, as I had to ask the waitress several questions regarding what the dishes came with. The waitress was unsure if I could change anything, I asked if instead of new potatoes could I perhaps have a few chunky chips, as they didn't serve roast potatoes with the Sunday lunch? She said no I couldn't without bothering to asking anyone.
I ordered garlic mushrooms which were mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce served with lightly toasted garlic ciabatta bread. (Garlic mushrooms can also be breaded mushrooms with garlic butter inside - which is why I mention having elaboration of the items) anyway what I received was very nice and I enjoyed them. Hubby had chicken skewers which were 2 small skewers with chunks of chicken and red pepper , served with a small side salad and a sweet chilli dressing, he said he enjoyed his starter too.
I ordered roast turkey Sunday lunch which was served with 2 medium sized Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes and gravy, there was a separate dish which contained cauliflower, broccoli, new potatoes and carrots. All the vegetables {apart from the cauliflower} in the separate dish was, in my opinion, overcooked as I prefer vegetables al dente .
Hubby had meat and potato pie which came with homemade chunky chips, gravy and garden peas. He said the pie was nice and loved the homemade chips. I asked for extra gravy which came in a little gravy boat and was no trouble.
Operating a pay when you order system which I found quite unusual considering we were sat inside, they have carried it on from when they were doing outside dining.
We were too full to partake in a dessert but looked to be priced competitively.
All in all I did enjoy dining at The Marsh in Cleckheaton and will...

Read moreI had overall high hopes coming to visit The Marsh. My family have recommended it to me on a few occasions. Unfortunately, it didn't meet what I was led to expect though.
After being seated, and placing my order, it took nigh-on fourty minutes for the starters to arrive. I ordered calamari, and it came overdone/rubbery, and was served with unwashed salad.
We then had to prompt the waitress again after another wait between courses, which shouldn't need to be done. The service was slow, despite the building being half empty.
Furthermore, don't go for a roast. I had the turkey, which was dry, and was given 3 types of potatoes. A roast shouldn't be overwhelmed with that many carbs. Two roasties is a shambles, to be then given a mass of new potatoes and mash. Give customers the option if you're going to offer all three.
I sadly won't be coming back to this establishment, and won't recommend it to...
