PARKING: The shop has a small cramped parking area outside which can handle a maximum of 4-5 cars.
THE PREMISES: The shop is a decent size with great seating arrangements. The decor is excellent all round with good lighting. The tables seem clean but on close inspection there are some sticky areas.
FOOD: Considering that Mother Hubbards is meant to be “famous” for its fish and chips, it’s not the case in my opinion. The chips are just ok, but nothing too fancy. There were some hard bits and they were too dry. As for the fish?, well..I have tasted better in normal chip shops who are not known for being “famous” for their fish. I was really put off I had travelled nearly 2 hours.
STAFF: Absolutely appalling staff!! Everyone one of them apart from the guy frying the fish in the back. As I walked in, there was an unwelcoming, evil look from the 3 women who were behind the counter. I stepped forward after taking a quick look at the menu. I gave my order, handed her the money and she was blatantly huffing and puffing. And when she asked if I was eating in, this really got them annoyed, as it meant they had to do some actual work and clean some tables. I was shocked, clearly they didn’t want to serve anyone and probably wanted to stand around doing nothing. The shop only had 2 customers and it wasn’t even that busy. As I stood waiting for my food, an overweight staff came with my food on a tray and just rudely dumped it on one of the table and walked off. I met one of the locals and he told me that the staff were usually like that when the boss wasn’t around, but as soon as the owner of the establishment walked in their attitudes changed. NOTE TO MANAGER: you got the wrong people behind the counter, you can do better. Definitely never returning...
Read moreAlways gives me excellent service. Fish is fresh, the smell and taste of the fish is good. It’s good quality. Some places I’ve been where the fish is cheap alternative to cod or haddock and smells bad. Here they used good quality fish. Quality and quantity reflects of the prices and I am happy to pay for quality food. The portions are good, I usually order the jumbo and special. It’s a large pizza sized box with large fish often enough for 2-3 adults to share. The chips are freshly cooked and hot. Waiting time is about 10 minutes in max or busy times you may have to wait a bit more but its fine as I know it’s freshly cooked and it’s worth it. Anywhere you go for fast food you expect to wait around this time anyway. Staff are always happy, helpful and will conversation with you or joke with you. The only niggle I have that if you dine in perhaps you get ketchup in a squeezy bottle as complimentary as little Sachets are too small and large bottle you have to purchase it too big. Also I have had mushy peas as extra on the side which is great! Happy to dine in, take out and happy to recommend this branch. Thanks for 1st class service. This is what service is all about! Customer satisfaction . Well done keep up...
Read moreThis review is based on all aspects of going here and not just based on the food alone. First off, though, to get it out the way, the food, as always, is fantastic. The chips, sausage, and fish are always cooked perfectly, and I honestly can't fault this part of it.
Parking is horrendous for here, though. There are very few spaces available for you to park in, and often get taken for long periods of time for people who dine-in making it near impossible at times to park up properly without blocking further access for people to get through the tight alley of a car park. This really should be expanded upon, or at least highlighted, the best place to park if full.
Space inside the building is quite good, and if you are dining in, there will be plenty of space to fit you in. In reality, this will probably be enough space for around 20-30 people. The staff, though, always keep the place looking very clean and are always attentive to taking orders for new customers whilst delivering on people who have already ordered.
I would highly recommend it here if you are in the area, but just be aware of the terrible parking situation at...
