Yesterday I ordered a pizza from Papa John's for delivery for the very 1st time. I created my own large pizza (13.5 inches). The price of the most basic large cheese and tomato pizza is a massive £11.99, but after I added 5 toppings, this cost an extra £6.75, bringing the cost of 1 large pizza to an eye-watering £18.74. I'll repeat that: £18.74
I knew this was an INSANE amount of money to pay for 1 pizza, but as I placed the order online, I thought that I must be about to taste the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life shortly because of the price.
Sadly, this was far from the case. Delivery was speedy, but the pizza wasn't the warmest.
Onto taste: massively disappointing. The pizza was far too sweet tasting (maybe the base sauce is to blame?). I had to add some salt, which I've never done on a pizza before. The extra toppings I had paid so much for were hard to find and taste. The extra cheese I'd asked for didn't seem to be there, as there was not a generous amount anyway. The dough or crust was nothing to write home about at all. I ended up throwing 4 slices into the bin (£8 worth?) even though I was still hungry, I couldn't face eating anymore of it.
All in all, the most expensive pizza I have ever bought turned out to be one of the worst ever.
Sorry Papa John. You had one shot to impress a first-time customer, and blew it on an epic scale. Vastly over-priced rubbish; literally!
(P.S - A significant number of the 5 star reviews here are posted by "Local Guides". I wonder if they are receiving some discounts at PJ's or perhaps free pizza?) Trustpilot UK gives 1 star as the UK average...

I don’t usually write reviews — but this visit to Papa John’s genuinely deserved one. From start to finish, the experience was miles above your typical pizza takeaway, and that’s almost entirely thanks to Awais, who was nothing short of exceptional.
Awais didn’t just take my order — he curated it. I had a particular flavour combination in mind that wasn’t on the menu, and instead of the usual “sorry, we can’t do that,” Awais lit up with enthusiasm and said, “Let’s build it together!” He went out of his way to make sure every ingredient worked perfectly — from balancing the sauces, to tweaking the cheese blend, to suggesting the ideal crust for the texture I was after.
The end result? The best pizza I’ve ever had from Papa John’s. Fresh, perfectly baked, loaded with flavour, and genuinely bespoke. You could taste the care and attention in every bite. It wasn’t just food — it was craftsmanship.
What stood out most though was Awais’s attitude. Friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what he does. He turned what could have been a quick takeaway run into a genuinely memorable experience. People like him remind you why customer service still matters — and why some places just stand out from the rest.
Papa John’s should be very proud to have Awais on their team. If every branch had someone like him, they’d never have an unhappy customer again.
Highly recommend this store — and if you get the chance, ask for Awais. He’ll make you a pizza that’s not just delicious… it’ll be...
Read more"I had a terrible experience. I ordered cheese bites and boneless chicken. I called ahead to explain to a woman that the chicken wasn't cooked properly; the chicken breast was black, slimy, and rubbery. She said the manager wasn't there and hung up on me. Then, the manager called me and was very unprofessional. He insisted that the chicken was supposed to look that way. I replied that I'm not stupid and know what chicken is supposed to look like. He said he knew his job and called me a liar. I told him that as a customer, I had no reason to lie. He then said he would send something new but that I had to pay a £3 delivery fee. I was shocked. I told him I was calling to tell him the chicken I ordered was undercooked, rubbery, and black, and he was telling me to pay for delivery, even though it was their fault the food was bad. He then said okay, I wouldn’t have to pay, but it would take 3-4 hours for the new food to arrive. I agreed. When the new order came, it was the same thing, so I threw it away. They didn’t want to give me my money back, and the manager was awful and shouldn't be a manager. He was trying to scam me and said horrible things. I will never order from there again. I hope they close the shop. The service is horrible, and they are scammers who are very greedy for money. They didn’t even want to refund my money. Please don’t order from them; their service is horrible, and they are scammers." And the owner it a scammer...
