I visited this pub a couple of days ago with 2 female friends during the early evening. The pub is freshly decorated and is very pretty outside with lots of hanging baskets. The girl attending the bar was polite and helpful. Firstly we ordered coffees which were made from a machine, but were very poor, infact my friend found hers to be undrinkable and left most of it. Next I ordered an appletise which was not available or infact was any other similar apple drink, so I made do with a J2O. The pub was quite empty, but a man who was either drunk or who had mental health issues came and sat at the next table and insisted on trying to talk to us in a very intrusive manner, to the point that we had to move to a different table.. Read moreGreat pub just outside the town centre. Relaxed atmosphere and vibe. Very friendly staff and owners. We had a family gathering on a Saturday afternoon, it was a great place for a get together. Food was lovely - we had the sharing platters which were excellent, especially the spicy chicken. The cold ploughman platters are top quality, lovely ham and cheese. Good range of beers and wines. Handy stopover after a walk in Greenhead park or a visit to the hospital which is just up the road. However Philippa made me feel very welcome and the staff were great. The one star reflects the fact that Philippa has allegedly been dismissed and the pub is up for grabs again.
