Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Lancaster

I may come across as very picky, and I know Costa has a high turnover for their staff, but I feel that they really need to give better training to their baristas. Many of them don't know how to froth milk properly, or put the components of a coffee together in the right order (it should be espresso first, then milk, if needed, which would have been heated to 60°-70°C and steamed with the pitcher at an angle, not near boiling temperature, and one definitely does not dump the espresso into the milk after it's frothed). I see baristas checking the till while making coffee, making the coffee overheat, which significantly reduced the amount of flavours you would normally get from the coffee grounds.

The surfaces where the coffee are made were never thoroughly cleaned, as you often see chocolate powder all over the counter. The same towel and the same dirty cup is used for cleaning and getting espresso for the whole day, and the tip of the steamer has bits of milk in the crevices, which are never cleaned when it's wiped. This raises my concern for the café's hygiene.

There have been very good baristas in the past, but I feel that Costa's currently standards have slipped significantly. I would no longer recommend this Costa on campus.

Went in and ordered a medium hot chocolate- they did not have cream or marshmallows but that was fine. When I got my drink I drank a small amount of it and realised it was lukewarm and so I asked if it could be reheated. I was told in quite an irritated manner that they would have to make me a new one and when they did, they decided to only fill the cup halfway as I'd drunk a bit out of my last one. Being a barista myself, I would always make someone a completely new drink and fill it to the top if the drink that I had originally made was not up to standard as it is not the customer's fault?! However, for fear of irritating this person further, I didn't mention it, nor did I even mention the fact that the drink itself didn't taste of anything really. Went in for a take away cappuccino only to find that more than half of the cup was froth!! Waste of money and terrible coffee. This is one of many instances that I have experienced and heard about. Some of their staff (not the four who were on morning shift today) is rude and I have also witnessed two of them threatening a customer to file a complaint against them. The university should look into this!

This is the worst Costa cafe! I have written reviews before but clearly, nothing is being done. Hence, I deleted my previous reviews to write this one. Most of the staff is terrible.
