Alfred - North Bar — Restaurant in Leeds

Exquisitely annoying place, see below:

Pros: Good beer (naturally, this is no longer a USP for a bar) Interesting decoration - the lights and the German style wall of mugs for the regulars spring to mind A neighbourly feel and it's at the centre of the community

Cons: Very poor value, especially given the location, the phrase scalping comes to mind (eg. beer that's brewed a couple of miles away which I've managed to source for less the other side of the country). Previously they used to come up with b.s excuses but now they don't even bother arguing otherwise. Nice staff, however I think some have had that trained out of them, with that typical North bar template - fake banter, upselling, nonsensical recommendations, trying to seem cool and contemporary (who cares?) - you get the picture Slightly twee undersized furniture, a bit like Further North, that makes it a bit too primary...

I recently visited North Bar in Meanwood, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was laid-back yet lively, making it a great spot to unwind. The selection of drinks was impressive, with a great variety of craft beers, cocktails, and other options to suit all tastes.

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to offer recommendations, which made the experience even better. Whether you’re in the mood for a quiet drink or a fun night out with friends, North Bar has the perfect vibe.

Popped into this hostelry for apéritifs. I'd call it quaint yet cool. Our patron for the evening was a most convivial fellow, Chris who was more than agreeable to meet our every need, no matter how niche or bizarre. The beer selection is really good and there's a fridge of tins if you prefer to imbibe sat out in the streets. I recommend Sputnik beer although everything is rather overpriced giving that air of cool pretension which it is not. Overall, I would give this house 6 out of 7 points. I shall return.
