EDIT: THE REPLY FROM MILLER & CARTER IS NOT ACCURATE.
The initial wait might possibly have been 17 minutes so I'll ignore that, but we absolutely DID tell them about the undercooked steak. The fact that the server clearly didn't bother to take note of this isn't really our fault. Not only did we mention it when she came to check, we mentioned it again at the end of the meal, AND again when the bill arrived. Just to be very clear.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: The place was really nice and we had a window seat. My partner and I were in Leeds for the evening and were looking forward to some good food as we usually like a Miller & Carter.
The food took a long time to arrive but not so long that it was a huge problem. We had ordered our steaks medium well done, but my partner's steak was rare at best. Completely bloody and squishy. She wasn't able to eat it, but couldn't get the attention of the staff who were all over at the other side of the restaurant looking at their mobile phones or devices.
Eventually someone came over and we explained about the steak which was now cold, and asked for the bill. A long time passed and eventually we were going to go speak to someone when one of the chaps on the bar noticed us looking around and he got the other staff member to finally come over.
At this point she had forgotten that we had asked for the bill, and asked again if we wanted it! I explained that it had been 40 minutes plus since we were waiting the first time, and reiterated about my partner's steak. This was met with a very bored "oh yeah sorry" and then the bill finally. No discount for the raw steak or anything meaningful at all, just a quick sorry before the staff member went off on her merry way.
So overall, terrible service, undercooked food, very, very slow on what was a...
Read moreI was surprised to find this restaurant relatively quiet on a Thursday evening, especially given the great value ‘date night’ menu they offer. As a fairly large group we’d made a reservation in advance and the large table was centre of the restaurant. It was really spacious too, ensuring it didn’t get cluttered with all the glasses and side plates, plus there was no need to be bashing elbows throughout the meal. The other tables throughout the restaurant looked equally as comfortable and spacious too. Everywhere was clean, including the cutlery and glasses, and the internal decor is very pleasant.
All the staff were brilliant from the moment we arrived to giving a genuine goodbye as we left. They were always on hand to order additional drinks and were efficient at taking the large order. They also seemed knowledgeable and catered for tweaks to the food as some individuals wished. The main food arrived in good time considering the number of people, however a few of the steaks were rather disappointing. They certainly cook towards rare so be mindful if you don’t like pink, but even the fillets were a bit gristly. Portion sizes were good though and all the side dishes were cooked brilliantly. The mushroom starter was a good size too and there was plenty of bread provided. Deserts were pretty slow to arrive at the end but fortunately were nice enough to make up for the wait.
Overall, particularly with the Thursday night deal, it was great value for money in an upmarket setting. It’s certainly not the best steak I’ve had but given everything else I can be forgiving and would...
Read moreWe went as a group of 5 to celebrate my birthday. We were served by someone called Gaz, and by the time we received our drinks, we were ready to leave and had to change servers. He was incredibly condescending, impatient and downright rude. We were unsure which wine we wanted, and we tried to explain to him the wine we drank last time we were there. We were met with ''we change the wine list every 6 months'' and ''do you want to come to the bar and pick it yourself, I can be here all day''. We let this slide. After constantly being asked if we have been to a M&C(we have), he eventually came to take our orders. What was ironic is when we asked the difference between the 30 day aged and 50 day aged, he couldn't really explain it, when we asked for a recommendation, he said he wouldn't go for a fillet. He specified which round the table he will take the orders, we stated that one of us is not sure what we want so we suggested he starts at the other end. He simply stated he will come back when we are ready and left. When ordering and saying ''I'll have the same but ill have it medium rare instead of rare'' we were met with pointless remarks such as ''so its not the same then''. We were never met with such a childish attitude from someone with gray hair on his head. Whatever you do, if he comes up to serve you, just ask for someone else to save you a really unpleasant time. We ended up asking if we can be served by someone else, and two wonderful ladies ended up being great.
Or just avoid all together and go to Mirfield...
