Since its refresh earlier in the year this place has become a new favourite of mine. While I wouldn't call myself a regular I do still feel welcome when calling in. The decor is tasteful as it is modern and clean but with a traditional pub style and feel. The place has several high quality TVs for watching sport and no matter where you sit you should be able to watch what's on. The drinks selection is good and prices are very, very reasonable. My drink of choice; Coors is £2.50 a pint. While the ever popular Carling is just £2.30! They have a couple of hand pulled ales which I won't experience until winter comes around and my tastes change. The facilities are good if a little cramped in the gents, and the beer garden is a pleasant enough place to sit in the sun. Despite it being on a cobbled slope and right next to a busy road. They take card with no minimum charge which for me is a make or break thing. There is also a pool table that I have not yet used so I don't know how good it is.
All in all a very pleasant local that I look forward to spending...
Read moreI have never felt so unwelcome in my life. I had never been in a pub on my own before, but with my husband working away, and being new to the area I decided to go in and make new friends. I went in 10 minutes before last orders and waited to be served. A female member of staff was serving another customer and others were waiting to be served, when a male member of staff approached me and told me that they had stopped serving. This was clearly not the case, and so I waited for the female to serve me, which she did, and she then went on to serve the other people waiting. I can only imagine that I was subject to the old misogynist view that women should not be in a pub unaccompanied and should leave. I felt very unwelcome, both from the staff and from the older customers who appeared to view me as doing something wrong by being there. A few of the younger customers were very nice to me which made the experience bearable, but over all I would think twice about going back. All in all very cliquey and not a...
Read moreNice decor and comfortable but lacks the most important thing for any "good local pub" and that is "Atmosphere!" I know that times are hard with austerity recession and all the other words that "they" use to keep us ordinary decent folk quiet.. but we went on a Saturday evening..pub only about a third full and it's a big pub but very few people were prepared to be "sociable" music was limited to whatever was put on the jukebox....this pub needs activities that engage the people in there. Try a quiz night, a curry and chips and games night. Disco night, Fancy dress karaoke night (pick a theme like an Elvis one or a punk one or a music from the films one.. Other theme nights work..try a WWII night in fancy dress.. just a few ideas...but please landlord or lady please entertain the customers and they will fill your pub. How about an open Mike night for budding performers...or a jam session for old retired ex musicians... Apart from that the staff were polite...
