I'm not a "regular" at Wagamama but have been many times over the years, 3 times to this one in particular but I haven't been motivated to review until today.
We arrived just before 2pm and the restaurant was fairly busy but not to the point of it being full. The three of were greeted and asked if we'd like a kids menu, given we were with a young child I found it a little odd but quickly moved on.
We were seated on a bench table near the bar / toilet and at the moment we sat down were asked to place our order, this was before even opening the menu. No worries, the waiter seemed a bit inexperienced and it was no trouble to ask for some more time.
Orders were subsequently placed (minus steamed buns as they had none) and as is the norm arrived as they were ready, this is fully expected at Wagamama and as my daughter got hers quickly all was OK. However 10 minutes later I was still waiting for my "chicken harusame glass noodle salad" - I was then told it would be another 4-5 minutes. Annoying but so be it, salad takes some cooking :)
Finaly it arrived, with no glass noodles! A glass noodle salad with no noodles, how does a chef make that and then a server bring it from the passe without noticing the main ingredient is absent? It was also pretty light on chicken.
Obviously I made them aware of this then witnessed several members of staff discussing if what I'd said was missing was right, really? Eventually someone confirmed this to be the case and I was told there would be a further wait of 5 minutes - by this time the rest of my family had finished eating. I declined the offer of the dish being made properly and subsequently heard it being noisily binned.
It then took 10 minutes for it to be taken off the, still somewhat expensive, bill. Another member if staff apologised and offered me an alternative as a takeaway but I was too irritated at this point.
I left hungry, annoyed and probably won't return to this particular Wagamama again which is a shame as it's my closest one.
Probably a good this as ultimately its all pretty bland and pricy for what it is, anyone amazed by this stuff clearly hasn't tried the real thing, it's OK for a healthy kids meal I guess but it is to Asian cuisine what Mcdonalds is to burgers... Only they don't get their ingredients right.
It's ingredient assembly by numbers, not cooking with passion, sometimes that's all you need but it needs...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for dinner at around 5.30, there was a bit of a wait to be seated, I think the girls in front of us were waiting in the wrong place as I didn't see any signage for where to wait to be seated.
Once seated the children's menu and crayons were brought very quickly which any parent appreciates and we were able to order drinks as soon as the last member of our party had sat down.
Our daughters have some dietary requirements and these were noted with great care, we have an allergy to tomato which wagamama do not track as one of their 14 allergens so that might be something to consider going forward.
We were served by Emily S. She was friendly, helpful and attentive and seemed genuinely pleased to help us with our queries - great service!
We have been to Wagamama's before so we are used to the meals coming out when they are ready, unfortunately this meant our youngest daughter's meal came out last which made her a bit upset, perhaps marking children's meals as priority might help this without changing the model, as adults tend to have more patience.
I had the Beef Brisket Tantanmen which was probably the only let down. The ramen tasted rather artifical as though it was from a 2 minute noodles pack and the serving of the beef brisket was very small, about 1.5 tablespoons of finely shredded beef which seemed like only a couple of mouthfuls, I found myself looking at my daughter's child's meal with envy as she had a whole sliced chicken breast.
My wife and children's meals were very good and they had...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood quality was poor, service was poor, and the toilets were an absolute disgrace. When paying the prices you charge, you expect quality ingredients. The colour of the yolk on the tea stained egg was almost the same colour as the white, indicating a cheap poor quality egg, likely from a caged hen. Further to this, Ramen classically has an egg with a jammy yolk, wheras as mine had clearly been hard boiled to within an inch of it's life hours before. The Ramen also tasted of fish which was odd. Small portions with the curry. Furthermore, our waitress was extremely inattentive. Although, to be fair to her, there seemed to be a culture of this at this branch. We couldn't get anyone to serve use and were waiting 20 minutes to even order drinks even though the restaurant wasn't that busy. Staff were stood around talking rather than serving customers. We pointed out how long we had been waiting but didn't get so much as an apology. The attitude of staff was very poor. After such a horrible eating experience, my partner went to the bathroom and found the toilet in an absolute state. I went after and both female toilets were a mess too. We have photographic evidence of this. I really struggle to know where our money has gone, as it certainly wasn't in paying for quality ingredients, for a positive experience, or for cleaning staff. Far cheaper to go to an independent establishment where the food quality is better and custom is actually appreciated. Wagamamas has clearly gone down hill and we will not...
