We've been in the area for about 5 years, and regular visitors to WPL over this time . The last few times we've been really disappointed, the standard of the food seems to have gone down. We visited on 26th March, and spent £60 on a bottle of wine, two starters and two mains. My partner had the veg cannelloni which he said was okay, just very little veg - mainly cheese and sauce. My main was the chicken breast & mushrooms, which arrived with frozen mixed veg and a few wedges. At almost £14, the veg should at least be fresh. Also the chicken was undercooked with several pink patches/blood throughout the thicker side. WPL does a reasonable breakfast/lunch, but we won't be going back for an evening meal.

On arrival, it was quiet. The place is clean and nicely set out. The breakfast menu had some good choices. We had the Full English breakfast and a bacon sausage and mushroom sandwich with a latte. (Please see photos attached) The coffee was very nice. The service was fairly quick, and the waiter was polite. It was well presented, and the food was decent. Compared to other places I've been to, it wasn't amazing, but it was more than good enough. They aren't very giving with the butter, though, so don't be afraid to ask for more. I think this place is more on the expensive side. Would come here again.

Tried to give this place a chance thrice but it’s always been a letdown. First time came as a group and we ordered paninis - they were ok but certainly nothing to rave about. Ended up falling sick from the fries both times we came. More recently I’d ordered the Cajun chicken and halloumi pasta which was incredibly dry with the chicken definitely not juicy. I’d expected the pasta to be creamier given the description of it. My companion’s calzone was also very doughy and lacked flavour according to them. You’d think the food would be better given the time they took to make it.

We went to West Park Cafe this morning the service was the worst I've ever experienced. The lady who I'm guessing owened the place threw the receipt at me after I went to pay the bill and mentioned that we waited an hour for a bagel and avacado on toast. When 40 minutes passed I asked the waitress politely how long it will be as we had a 3 hour journey to do and thought West Park Cafe would be a good start-more fool me! 55 minutes passed and the lady in charge said rudely as I had to go through the kitchen to use the toilet passing all the soggy mushrooms that were left sat in a cold pan and trays of bacon all over the cluttered kitchen, 'I'll bring it'. She then didn't apologise when she brought the food over; she just slammed it on the table. After eating I went to the till to pay. She still didn't mention and thing. I then said that one hour was a long time to wait for toast (even though they still couldn't melt the cheese in that time) without an apology. I was not looking for a freebie just an apology as manners go along way. She screwed up the receipt, threw it at me and said we were busy. I looked around to empty tables and she said forget it it you can go. This could be anything from me looking young although I'm 29, it could be that I was the only person of mixed heratige, or could be that they will not pass their next hygiene test and they know how poor their service is. Either way after working in restaurants for 7 years this is by far the worst service...

I have been here many times and the food has always been very good. BUT on my last visit this was far from the case....

The main course was excellent as always, and we stayed for dessert. This is where it went horribly wrong. We had selected four gateau slices and were eating them when my daughter stated hers tasted funny. On inspection, it was full of mould. Examining the remnants of the other cakes confirmed each of the other ones were also full of mould.

This was pretty horrific as most of the other cakes had been eaten at least half way.

I brought this to the attention of staff, who were very apologetic and took the cakes away. He blamed it on it being a hot day.

He stated he would take the cost of the cakes off the bill, which struck me as obviously the least they could do.

We paid for the meals, less the cakes, and sadly haven't returned, which is a shame as up to that point we had always enjoyed eating there. I was very dissatisfied with their resolution to this.

I had also noted a decline in service over the two years I'd been going. It used to be very quick, and staff were super helpful, but over time this just seemed to decline, which my wife also picked up on. Once again, a bit of a shame as they were...

Used to frequent this place but when a previous chef left and a lady who seemed to be a new manager began the food went down hill, quality dropped and the steak which I used to recommend to friends regularly shrank to a 3rd the size. Been a handful of times since but it’s always mediocre. Went on Monday as every where else shut - one last chance.

Food again was mediocre but the 1* is for the disgraceful Covid measures.

We arrived, small notice in doorway re social distancing and mask wearing and hand sanitiser on a stand - test n trace barcode on the tables. off to a good start. All downhill from there.

Waitress serving us mask was not covering nose. Ok. It’s hard working in a mask all day I understand.

Multiple customers then came in, no masks and no hand sanitizer used. No one asked to scan the test n trace barcodes, no one queried about masks or lack of. Again understand this is difficult but still.

Then a guy walks through the door, no mask, no hand Sanitiser used - walks through the building and into the kitchen.

Query this with staff “oh it’s ok he’s a chef”

So we’ve got a chef not adhering to hygiene standards - how reassuring.

I used to love this place but I’ll never...
