A challenging review, on one hand our stay was not perfect, and had issues, BUT the accomodation manager (Hollie) refunded 50% of our stay.||BUT warning to other travellers (this is based on a saty in mid June 2023).||It is an old pub with rooms to rent in an attached converted building. |The rooms are managed by a separate company.||Our room was an upgrade on the one we booked, Castle Suite, so that was a positive. A 1st floor en suite room. The bedroom was a great size, it had a bath in the room, which is great for some couple, but necessarily for everyone. ||Clean room and comfy bed. The bed was very comfortable with decent pillows, good clean and fresh linen.||Coffee facilities were great, a Nespresso capable coffee machine for me who likes those, and a kettle and sachets for my wife who likes the regular coffees. Nice glasses and water jug provided. ||A decent sized bathroom with a funky all singing all dancing shower with lights, sauna capability and Bluetooth connection to your phone if you need it. ||This is where the problems start. ||First morning I showered in cold water, it would not move from cold, despite much fiddling. As it was during the June heatwave that wasn't such a terrible thing, I cracked on. Within about 5 mins, my wife banged on door, being alerted that the chef and bar staff were banging on our room door saying there was a leak pouring into the pub kitchen. I got decent and got out. They were very apologetic, the male chef, and young female bar staff were very good, and tried their best, explained they worked in the pub, and that rooms were dealt with by another company/person. They said to finish my shower and they would deal with the leak, the following morning I used the in bedroom rolltop bath with shower head attached for safety.||Other issues, when we checked in the lad behind the bar seemed pretty nonplussed about helping us, getting us in, and not the welcome you'd expect at accomodation for £100+ a night. ||The TV has streaming apps and we weren't there to watch TV, so not a big issue. ||We didn't use the pub as we had a beer / music festival to attend one night, and a night in Brighton the other night. ||The room was very hot, its an old building and the middle of a very hot spell, there was a fan, so not a criticism on the property, but be aware, if you visit in the height of summer, there is no...
Read moreWe booked the Brighton suite, which on arrival, the first impressions were good. The room was clean and large. The furniture was nice, and it had a large smart TV, and a nespresso coffee maker. There was also a view of the castle. The bathroom was clean, and had an all singing and dancing shower, which had a built in sauna. There was also a hairdryer but no iron, or ironing board. The pub was great, it was friendly and had a great atmosphere. It served food, albeit with a limited menu.| The room also overlooks the beer garden, which can be noisy in the evening, and the door to the garden slams as it closes. You would expect noise booking above a pub, but maybe putting in double glazing, or secondary glazing might dampen the noise. In the morning we tried to open the sash window to let some air in, but it wouldn't stay open. The shower in the morning leaked from the shower head quite a lot, which reduced its pressure. Then I heard an almighty bang above me, and water started pouring in from above. It scared the daylights out of me, and I quickly turned off the shower and got out. When I tried to report it to a lady downstairs, they were quick to inform me that the rooms were a separate company but that she would pass it on. We mentioned it again that evening when we returned to the bar staff, and they again said it wasn't theirs, but said there had been a lot off issues with the showers.| There is a mobile number you can call if there is an emergency, but what counts as an emergency?| The fact that the shower was either not checked, or the problem was noticed and ignored, and The lack of someone to raise issues with (apart from emergencies) is an issue. Also the lack of ironing board and iron, plus a window that won't stay open is the reason I gave a two rating. I wouldn't mark it down for the noise as I was aware it was above a pub when I booked it.| If the shower was working, the window would've remained open, and there was an iron and ironing board, I would have given it a four. If there was better communication, in regards to raising issues, it would be an easy 5.| This is a lovely room, just needs to be...
