Having popped in for a cake and a coffee, I was very disappointed with the service in the shop. I had to wait for the counter staff to finish their conversation before she would look at me. She appeared not really interested in what she was doing. I was made to feel I was interrupting her by wanting to be served. She was so slow, I wasn't sure if she was serving me or not serving me. I felt the whole experience was something out of the 1940's. There was no connection with the customers/staff, the staff showed no willingness to engage with customer's, unless they new them personally. There was a younger member of staff that did smile but she went on her lunch break, the older members of the staff really shouldn't be doing the job if they can't come up with the service. it does not put the shop in the 21st century. Nothing against older workers but they really need to put more effort into serving people. Having said that the cake was lovley.I really wouldn't want to return for that...
Read moreDisappointing breakfast, various items not up to standard. Sausage was anemic and just warm so I left most of it fearing trouble, the egg was solid and rubbery so I left that too. Both the tomatoes and mushrooms were unseasoned so that left them very bland and also luke warm. The slice of bacon was obviously pre cooked which left it hard and just warm. The only really hot items were the half a plate of beans (so many because they needed to fill the plate up)and the toast (which was delicious and thick). This wasn't a generous plate nor was it well cooked so considering the price I was left incredibly disappointed, they make a point of saying that everything is cooked to order so you'll know there's a wait but after the wait my food was most definitely NOT cooked to order. The cake I took away was lovely and the staff friendly but with all the great cafes in Lichfield I definitely won't be coming anywhere near...
Read moreAfter reading so many positive reviews on the bakery and bread items I thought that Hindleys would put as much time and effort into their breakfast offering.
I arrived and the cafe was empty which should have been a warning sign having walked past four cafe's on the way which were all nearly full.
Ordered a sausage and egg sandwich at a cost of nearly £6 and it was just a reheated sausage and egg plonked on some bread, the sausage was warm at best, very dry and tough, and the egg was very overcooked and tasteless.
Nothing about the food was fresh or cooked to order as you would expect, I suspect the ingredients were decent quality but had been let down by lazy half hearted preperation.
There seemed little excuse for not cooking to order, the cafe was entirely empty - I suspect as a result of...
