I was really looking forward to a roast dinner here after seeing how good the rest of the menu looked. I arrived as a party of four, we were promptly seated and served drinks which were fine and again very swift. We were then told that they had no ribeye pork steak on the menu which had sold out ( we visited at 2.30pm) again I can understand this but very disappointed.
My problem was with the half a chicken roast dinner that was served with 'seasonal veg and cauliflower cheese' the seasonal veg consisted of about 4 petals of red onion, one tiny beetroot quartered, about a tablespoon of cabbage, half a carrot and half a parsnip, very poor and cheap selection of veg. The cauliflower cheese was a laughing stock, two tiny floret heads served in a ramakin, nuked and what I assume was cheddar cheese on top, It was that melted on it had disintegrated. Three tiny roast potatoes, which to be fair were nice and the Yorkshire puddings was also good and large. All of this served with a roadkill dry half chicken and about a tablespoon of gravy. The staff did promptly bring extra gravy though. I also read that there was bottomless roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings but alas these weren't to be seen or even mentioned by anyone. £22.50 for all of this just seems a bit of a joke, I'm happy to pay good money for good food, but honestly this is the most boring and worst roast I've had in years, and to add insult to injury gratitudity is stuck on top of the bill regardless. You can ask for this to be removed but that's a very awkward scenario. Overall very disappointed, I wish I had taken a picture but I think the shock of how poor it looked beat me to it! Won't...
Read moreWe visited The Quill and Scholar for lunch today to see the new place in town. The inside of the pub was nicely renovated and provided a calm and relaxed environment.
The staff were incredibly friendly with each one of them greeting us as we passed them. They were keen to help with menu explanations and were very accommodating and interested in us having a great experience.
Food was lovely, a refreshing change from just ordinary pub food to something that is a little bit more special with quality ingredients presented in an appetising manner to bring a fancy end result at an affordable price.
We would definitely visit again not just for the great tasting food but also for the accommodating hospitality of the staff who are there. If you haven’t been and you are in or around Lichfield I would certainly recommend that you have a look at what they have to offer!
Edit: We did end up visiting again on New Years Eve! Whilst the place was very busy they managed to stay consistent with the service, the food and the atmosphere - all in all a great place to visit and highly recommended for anyone looking for a great meal with some friendly staff to look after you while...
Read moreBooked prior to opening and waited with anticipation to eat at this newly refurbished venue sadly, the visit wasn’t worth the wait. The outside of the building looks great, a massive improvement on the previous establishment however, beyond the bar area, the long narrow ‘L’ shaped interior layout is too impersonal and lacks atmosphere. Menu choice is limited which, in one way, makes food selection really easy. The food itself isn’t brilliant, portion size is small and not the award winning chef inspired dishes the marketing blurb would lead you to believe. Price is on the high side, it’s not fine dining, more boil in the bag than individually crafted cuisine. Service all feels a little hurried, staff are friendly enough but appear to have been thrown in at the deep end without proper induction or training. Being a cashless venue isn’t an issue for me (although this appears to be more of a way of the owners bagging the service charge rather than anything else) but, there are still people who prefer cash, alienating these people isn’t a great policy. All said and done, the acid test is would I return? To coin a phrase from Simon Cowell, “it’s a...
