I made a booking for my birthday from 10pm-1am. When we got there no one greeted us at the desk to our table even though the place wasn’t crowded, so we went up to the bar. When I told the lady at the bar that we had a booking she replied in quite a rude manner just “okay…” as if they had no idea we booked when we’d even rang 10 minutes previously informing we’d be running a few minutes late. I explained it was a birthday booking and she said that i couldn’t get any of the free tokens that come with the booking because i hadn’t ordered food and couldn’t as it was past the time. But the website allowed me to book at 10pm so why wouldn’t i be allowed? I knew already about the food but i thought we could at least get the tokens. We’d ended up getting some drinks and tokens anyway because we had no where else we’d organised to go. At about 11pm we’d gone to get more tokens to where we were told last orders had already been taken, but we’d booked until 1am and online says it shuts at 1am. It just made me feel embarrassed and a little humiliated the way i was spoken to on my birthday to the point I left really upset cause it was the only plans I had organised for me and my boyfriend. It wasn’t a good experience and overall ruined my birthday. I wouldn’t recommend because honestly i don’t think they know themselves when they close. It’s like the employees just pick whenever they can be bothered to work because we’d been there on a Thursday before and they shut at 12:30am. So I don’t understand the difference. Don’t advertise you’re open u til 1am or give booking a until 1am if you’re not open until that time. Just really...
Read moreGreat concept and very good food, fairly priced too. We had a meal with friends earlier this week and were all impressed with the quality of the food. The burger was probably the best I've had this side of the Atlantic, yes - that good. Superb quality, properly seasoned and perfectly grilled. Generous portion of fries too, unlike TGIs across the road. We did have to ask three times for cutlery for dessert though, which is just waiting 101 and shouldn't happen.
Having the games at the back and the upper floor is also a great idea. I was expecting a few more games than they had upstairs, which caused a bit of a wait but I'm sure they'll add more in time.
The only two points I have could be improved upon are: Firstly, the table for six (table 11) just wasn't big enough. We were in an alcove opposite the bar and whilst the benches were big enough, the table was about a foot too short for us really. For two of us at the end, we had to sit diagonally towards the table corner which isn't comfortable in truth. And lastly, the dessert plates were like saucers and tapas bowl sizes. There was nothing wrong with the portion size but putting pancakes on a saucer and then getting the ice cream in a separate metal cup was just strange and you couldn't put the ice cream onto the pancakes even if you wanted to as there was literally no room. It would be nice to see larger plates used.
Other than that, it was a great experience and we will...
Read moreI have been coming to Carousel regularly with my partner for months and have always enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately, my most recent experience has completely changed my view of this place.
I arrived wearing loose trousers, trainers, and a hooded top — clothing I had to wear for genuine medical reasons. Instead of being welcomed as usual, I was immediately asked to leave. When I questioned this, I was told it was because of their “dress to impress” policy, specifically because of my trainers.
What shocked me most was that the staff member who asked me to leave was himself wearing trainers and baggy clothing. When I pointed this out, I was again told I had to leave. This was at 6pm on a Tuesday — hardly a “dress to impress” occasion, and certainly not a night out.
This whole experience left me humiliated and extremely anxious, particularly as my choice of clothing was for medical and mental health reasons, not out of disrespect or to cause trouble.
I am deeply disappointed and disgusted at being treated in this way. I intend to contact HR to report this incident, but unfortunately, this experience has completely ruined a place I once enjoyed...
