After a review on Youtube, I decided to try thos place out to try the Scouse Pie. Unfortunately on the day I went, today, the Scouse pies had all gone by 1.30 pm. I decided to try the Steak and Cheese pie and the Houllier pie (named after the LFC football manager). Both pies were cooked to an excellent standard. The pastry was gold, crisp and tasty, the beef was soft, succulent and well seasoned. The Houllier pie consisted of soft and succulent beef with mushrooms, carrots and red wine. I personally felt that the mushroom didn't go well with the beef and would be better with veg and red wine. The carrots gave the pie texture and sweetness to the pie. The only negative is that both pies were too salty for my liking, the Steak and Cheese was more so. I felt both pies were overpowered by the salt and I didn't enjoy the flavours fully. Out of the two, I enjoyed the Houllier pie better as it had a little less salt. I finished off with a home baked scone and a cup of tea which finished off my lunch lovely. Other than the salt, the food was excellent and the swevice was friendly. Overall, I give...

Read moreAfter seeming this place on TV, I made it my goal to go there if my team ever got to the premiership and played Liverpool. So tonight was the first time for me going to Anfield, and the opportunity of a famous pie awaited. Each pie is given a name and I decided to go for the “Shankley”, named after Bill Shankley, Liverpools three time league champion and UEFA cup winning manager. That’s where the winning ends, the pie, much to my disappointment, was missing a nice moist filling and replaced by an excessive amount of salt, leaving me to hunt for the nearest bar to rehydrate myself.
Apparently, pie prices are increased for match days, £4.20, and from what I’ve tasted, the price should decrease at least to the same price in the “Liverpool stadia”, (as written in the signs coming off the motorway), to £3.80 at least.
So the next time I travel 190 miles for a football game in Liverpool, I’ll be either be raiding the fish & Chip shop or...
