Bottomless BBQ ( Not quiet!!! )
My family recently visited Liverpool on the weekend. We found smoke and dough and decided to give it a try as it looked really busy and a customer recommended it to us as they left.
My wife opted for the vegetarian option, which she really enjoyed especially the halloumi. However I opted for the endless meat BBQ and was somewhat disappointed with the choice. The meat portions were tiny, and at least 3 were on the bone, which made them smaller still. The brisket was advertised first on the menu, but was not present at all. I still paid full price for it but received less than was promised, with no option to have a substitute in its place, it simply was not mentioned by the waitress staff.
The waitress staff were attentive when you had the food on the table but were missing in action when you were wanting the bottomless top up. When I finally got someone to order a top up, it never arrived. However when I ordered fries, which I paid extra for they arrived quickly, but still no free top up! This has been already mentioned in someone else’s review.
When I did finally get a top up I asked for another chicken kebab, ( which was lovely ) it only had 2 pieces on it! Again this was also mentioned in someone else’s review.
I can’t help but feel this is probably a sales technique here, to avoid people wanting a top up in the hope they will get tired of waiting, or force them into filling up on paid for sides.
The atmosphere was good and staff were polite when you could catch them. When it comes to the meat BBQ I think a better alternative to the many bone options could be a good quality burger, or gammon steak would be a great option.
Would I recommend this restaurant. Sadly it would have to be NO I would not recommend it. I’d suggest going to other restaurants on the same row. There is...
Read moreNever been so disappointed with this place before. Me and my partner like to come here for a nice meal when we visit Liverpool however after tonight's experience I don't think we will be returning! On arrival we waited at the front greet desk to be seated, the male that came to greet us didn't say a word, not even hello. He picked up 2 menus and gave a little nod to follow him, he tossed the paper menus on the table and walked away. The minute we sat down a lady came and asked for our order (yet we hadn't had chance to look at the sides to have with the main) eventually we ordered, two tables that ordered after us received there food sizzling and steaming, when ours arrived the gent that placed it in the centre of the table smelt like he had just rolled around in an ashtray and our skillet was cold. The meat was full of grit and fat, the beef patties looked like pieces of birdseye charcoal, there's more meat on a baby's toe than the ribs, the steak don't even get me started... I felt like I was eating a half smoked fag, it didn't taste fresh and tasted like the waiter that served it had used it to put his cig out. We wasn't offered any condiments, the table next to us let us use there salt for the gent that didn't speak to us at the start to get a condiment pot a chuck it on our table. All the tables around us was asked if everything was okay and offered extra meat but we wasn't, we get to towards the end of our visit and asked for the bill for the younge lady to stand staring at the till screen for approximately 10 minutes then disappeared... when we received the bill they had added on the optional 10% service charge, unfortunately for the first ever time we had to ask for this...
Read moreDon't let the name Smoke and Dough fool you into thinking any of the meats are smoked - they're not, and that was a big letdown for me and my boyfriend who both like smoked meats.
We went with the intention to get the bottomless grill - if the food was good. Thankfully, we weren't locked into paying the higher price until finishing our first, and only, round of meat.
The service was good and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. The bread and houmous starter was nothing special, but it wasn't offensive.
Unfortunately, the meats let this place down. They came out on a hot grill and looked the part, but looks doesn't fix the flavour and texture of food.
The three passable things were the lamb chops, lamb burger, and chicken leg. The skewered chicken was dry but somewhat ok. The ribs had a baked flavour and texture. The sauce was ok.
The worse meats were the steak and brisket. The steak was tough and not how steak should be done. It was a cheap cut, so I wasn't expecting a marvellous experience, but whoever is in charge of prepping and cooking the steaks needs to step up their game. A good steak shouldn't mean chewing for 5 minutes every time you take a bite. The brisket was an insult. Thin cut, half was the cut was fat, and there was next to no beef flavour. And not smoked. I'm glad we were only given one thin slice each because it was that disappointing.
We had a side order of chips for extra cost. They were ok. Skin on but no seasoning.
Price wise, the fixed price meal was alright. For almost £18 we weren't full, but we didn't want anymore.
For anyone who cares about smoked meats, or just meats cooked properly, please avoid. You'll probably be just as...
