Summary: Based on ordering from the Sunday Lunch Menu. Great portion size for the mains and the food was very tasty and very well presented. The person serving was helpful and friendly. The price was about average. Maybe could have had a mini pot of extra gravy served with the meal. Just for those gravy lovers out there. Overall though definitely a place to go for a decent Sunday Roast and if I lived in the area could imagine going as a regular.
Some detail: So we were driving on the way to watch the afternoon Liverpool game and were browsing many places to have some lunch. We came across Spitroast and it was Sunday why not go for roast.
The restaurant itself is just off the corner of the street. Now unfortunately if you are driving there is not any main street parking, not the restaurants fault. But you will have to find some parking on the side streets just off the main road. So be aware for this particular location.
The inside of the restaurant has a very calm and cosy atmosphere making it a nice place to sit inside and enjoy your meal.
They do provide the main menu and the Sunday lunch menu on a Sunday. The Sunday lunch menu is more than enough in my opinion to choose from. You can look ahead at the menu on their website which is easy to navigate.
But between the 4 of us that day we had the Roast Chicken Dinner each. Falafels, Chicken Won-Tons and the Molten Chocolate Fudge Cake. We were going to have the Sticky Toffee Pudding unfortunately they were out which was a shame.
One point of note which I thing all restaurants should do. Is to mention what is not available that day when providing the menu. Just to help customers make a choice.
The starters are not too big and overall you do not want them to be based on the size of main. The starters were very well presented and tasted great. As I said its just enough to not fill you up before the main meal.
When the mains came it was the portion size was large. Which is pleasantly surprising as it wasn’t just buffed up by the vegetables. The size of the half-chicken and amount of vegetables provided defiantly worth it.
The main was also presented and cooked well. The gravy and vegetables were also delicious. It really filled me up. One of the best restaurant chicken roasts I have had in a while.
Only one bad point is that I ordered vodka and apple juice. Was given an orange juice. Maybe I would have said something but the actual orange juice looked quite nice. Also I wasn’t particularly bothered that day what kind of juice I was having.
Overall though this place from my experience if most defiantly a must try for a Sunday Chicken Roast. The food made up for the minor mistakes. I could see it becoming a larger franchise in the future if they keep up...
Read moreOrdered a whole chicken, 2x seasonal greens and 2x tenderstem broccoli for collection. Turned up on time to collect the order and was stood around waiting for around 10 mins for someone to even acknowledge me, once I'd gotten someone's attention I was then told it'd be a further 20 mins - Okay, cool, sometimes these things can't be helped so I went back to the car and returned 20 minutes later only to then be told it'd be a further 15-20 minutes. Not going to lie, I was annoyed - mostly because it wasn't particularly busy, at least 7 tables were free that I could see. Waited the 15 or so minutes and figured ya know what, the food will be worth it, they might have had a bad day. Got home and the absolute state of the food - fuming. We paid £6.50 (x2) for 4 pieces of limp broccoli that literally tastes of urine and sugar. £5.25 (x2) for "seasonal greens" which was the most overcooked cabbage I've ever seen, swimming in water and over-seasoned in chilli and salt and not another vegetable in sight. I LOVE a nice kick to my food but this was legitimately overkill. Both veggie dishes are inedible. The chicken was £19 and I think it's the smallest chicken I've ever seen - I know we're paying for others to cook our food and I fully understand the costs of ingredients has risen but £19 for mostly cartilage and bones is taking the mick. Credit where credit is due the meat is tender but the spice blend they're now using is an acquired taste, it tastes to me like there's cinnamon in it, I'm not a fan so I've had a sandwich instead, my partner isn't too keen either but doesn't want to waste the food so is picking at it. All in all it was a really bad experience. Overpriced, overcooked, saturated in water and most of it is inedible. Such a shame because I'd only heard good things about this place. Needless to say, I won't...
Read moreAlright, I have HAD IT! A few months ago I would have easily given this place 5 stars but I don’t know what has happened over there…
First of all, some great dishes I liked are off the menu, secondly, the consistency cannot be counted on whatsoever.
In the span of 6 weeks I have ordered the exact SAME food item 3 times and each time I got a very different dish. It was one of the bowls - once the chicken is shredded, next time I get huge pieces with bones that I should apparently cut up myself. Once I get grains, next time there are none. One time there is a yoghurt dressing, next time there isn’t any. Another time there is a weird puree that overpowers everything. Roasted peppers that are listed as one of the items that should be in the bowl I have yet to see. You get my point…
Lastly, considering the huge prices for the side dishes, the portions are getting smaller and smaller - really? If you are charging 7-8 pounds for a side dish, then I’d at least expect a normal portion.
I am genuinely hoping this place will get it together because I...
