It's hard to find Sri Lankan restaurants, so was happy to find The Lion in Liverpool. I picked up on the way home, although the restaurant itself looks nice. And it has good reviews for a reason, the food is really good. Even though I am not crazy about mixing pineapple in savoury food, I must say their pineapple curry, Annasi Maaluva, was really something else! Nice, full, spicy and zesty flavour. There is a Japanese menu too, which features non spicy things too, like the excellent tempura soft cell crab. Top it off with a mochi and you are set. As you get 3 mochi it would be nice if you could combine - maybe they'd be fine with it if you call. Prices were quite modest too. Edit: I've had delivery a few times since and dined in too. It's one of my favourite restaurants, you really can't beat their Sri Lankan curries. I think the Salmon and the Pineapple are my personal favourites, although I can't say the cashew one is far behind. Devil dishes are great as long you don't mind the heat, and the crab is good (but messy!). Expect good service as well, and I really appreciate the fact that it's a dog friendly restaurant, which is something that's not very common with S. Asian restaurants. Update: Even though the food is consistently good, I am deducting at least one star due to my latest bizarrely bad delivery experience. After making an Uber eats order of 3 seafood and veggie curries and 2 sushi plates, they called me to tell me their sushi chef will be there at 5:30 ( it was 4:30) at the time, I explained we were fine with waiting if they could send it later and they seemed happy to do so. The order seemed stuck for a while and we ended up getting it a bit after 7. The 2 sushi dishes were missing and instead there was a lamb curry and egg rice. We called and they simply told us their sushi chef did not come and they replaced them without calling is. My partner started complaining (she doesn't eat meat so was quite upset), but they hang up. I can understand something went wrong with their staff, but replacing sushi in an obviously non-meat order with lamb without asking is crazy. The missing sushi was also 50% more expensive than the replacement - when you are trying to fix something you are supposed to be generous not stiff the customer. It's very sad because it's still my favourite curries, but it will be hard to convince my partner to order after this :(

After hearing about so many good reviews about The Lion Walton Road we tried here woo the my family for mine and my partners Birthday. And it lived up to its reviews. Everyone said how lovely there food was not one complaint we had.steak Skewer, spring rolls, yakitori & Chicken wings for starters. Chicken Teppanyaki, katsu chicken, ribeye steak, lamb curry, prawn Devil And kids chicken nuggets.....ive never seen my child eat so much so it must have been good haha. The staff was so lovely during booking and during our visit. They couldent di enough for us even tho we had them up the wall with so many orders expecially drink orders. I had both the mocktails my dad had the Japanese draft beer and he said it was lovely. With it been mine and my partners Birthday they made such a fuss over us at the end which topped the evening off.. They have only been open a couple of weeks and i really hope they take off as its just what we need in the area! It's gorgeous and the prices was so reasonable!. Thank you The Lion for having us we can't wait to come back to try more of the menu.

What a night!. Food was delicious, everything freshly cooked, homemade, full of flavour. Portions are big and well worth the money. Starters in particular where very tasty (would go back and do a “tapas style”of starters😊) Was asked if we was there for an occasion, we told them it had just been my parters birthday therefore came for a mid week meal. At the end of the night they sang happy birthday to him and gave a chocolate cake! Lovely touch. Great vibe inside and Staff where lovely! Friendly and attentive. Highly recommend visiting. Our order (see pics): Starters- Beef Teriyaki Chicken fried gyoza Yakitori Coconut Roti Mains- Sea bass, suzuki Devils mixed meat/seafood (rice separate) Devils mixed meat (rice separately) Chicken teppanyaki noodles (If you don't like spicy, get the mild devils still has a slight kick but very tasty)

This Sri Lankan restaurant was recommended to my friends and I during our recent weekend stay in Liverpool.

The food was absolutely wonderful. But let me give a couple other pieces of information before I get to that.

The restaurant is not in a great area, and as we walked from our airbnb to the restaurant -- and had to walk back after dark -- we were a little uncomfortable. But there were no problems.

There was a huge negative: service was incredible slow. In fact, when we arrived, some lads at a different table warned us not to stay, because they'd been there two hours and only just received their food. As we had no other plans for the evening, we did stay, and it was a little over 90 minutes from when we sat down at our booked table to when the food arrived. I don't know if that's normal or if there were short-staffed that evening. It seems to be very much a small family-run operation.

Now to the good part: the food was exceptionally good. So if you're willing to spend a long evening at the restaurant, I highly...
