I hired out the private room at the Alice House over the weekend to celebrate my birthday, it was quick and easy to book and secure. The room is a perfect size to hold a private party and you can decorate the room how you like, the only restriction was no confetti but that was not problem! On the night, I came with all of the decorations I wanted and was given an hour prior to my booking to come in and set up the room with friends. You can also play your own music in the private room, I had a playlist ready and just had that playing all night! Karolina’s customer service throughout the booking process was amazing and her and the rest of the staff on the night were beyond friendly, helpful and welcoming! The bar staff were making customised cocktails for my friends upon their requests which was a lovely touch! Thank you for an amazing night, I had a great time and will definitely be returning!

Didn't sample the food. Just a little hard not to be distracted by the very strong smell of fish wafting its way through the doors from the chippie next door. Red wines reasonable price. We had the Chilean Carmenere, whilst not featured very high on my favourites list where Malbec tops the board, was still decent enough to hold our attention while we chatted in the lovely Chesterfield wing chairs. The whole place is full of leather sofas, varying dining spaces, a choice of seats by the bar and interesting niches containing pottery, vintage games and books. You're invited to borrow a book from their library and imagine many regulars do. The ambience is relaxed gentleman's club with nicely presented craft ales on tap, discreet non pushy staff. I expect it's heaving with punters at the weekend which would be a game changer for me. I liked the midweek ā˜®ļø

I came here for Sunday roast and the atmosphere and pub itself was really nice however there are a few pain points.

The vegetarian roast was half an aubergine as a meat replacement and although the menu says all roasts come with a Yorkshire, it didn’t and upon ordering one as the plate is otherwise solely vegetables (for Ā£18), I was charged and extra Ā£1.50 for it?

The service was friendly but most seemed super stressed. We had our orders taken but had to ask for the Yorkshire pudding twice and then weren’t ever checked on after ordering.

Overall, it’s a nice pub when it’s not busy but felt like Ā£30 for an aubergine and veg roast with a pint of cider was too much.

Feeling Scammed at a British Pub. The just want to increase your bill and try to charge you a high service fee for a service you didn’t request.

My partner and I went to have a few drinks yesterday evening. The place is a typical local British pub. We ordered our drinks at the bar and then took a seat on a sofa. Despite a sign indicating that the area was reserved for later—which we were already aware of—the staff approached us several times to remind us of this, although it was not yet time for at least 40 minutes. They continued to interrupt us; on their last visit, they asked if we wanted another round, to which we agreed as they were very insistent . The bar was only a couple of metres away for where we were sited. Later, we moved to another table, yet the interruptions persisted with the staff prematurely bringing the bill, which we had not requested. To our surprise, they also added a 12.5% service charge like if it was a high end restaurant and for a service we never requested and it was just making the experience worst. It felt like a scam. The staff did not just fail to assist us but continually interrupted us, which ultimately increased our bill for a service we didn’t asked for and...

Unfortunately I won’t be back at Alice’s house for a while after today’s experience. I live local and this was one of my favourite places to go on weekends to have their burgers, unfortunately they changed the way they make it and the beef quality was way below standard, for a Ā£16.50 burger you expect to have a gourmet burger instead I got the thinnest patty I’ve ever seen and it was completely black as it was burned. I waited over 40 minutes for a burger and chips. The thing that upset me the most though was how the manager reacted at my feedbacks, I genuinely was hoping she’d let me know why they changed how they make burgers but instead she didn’t want to listen to my feedbacks nor explain why the burgers have changed their beef quality so drastically. As a good manager you’d want to take these things on board, especially as I told I go there all the time for their burgers. At least make them much cheaper if you’re going to get a cheaper cut of meat. I did get a refund for it which I am...

It's a lovely little pub with a good atmosphere but I probably won't be going back for their food which was very disappointing. I ordered the pork sausages with mash and bacon and lentils. I got two sausages and mash covered in lentils. I found one or two tiny pieces of bacon but that was it and it had no taste of bacon at all. It was dry and bland. I then ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was essentially cake with sticky toffee sauce on it. When you make sticky toffee pudding correctly you allow it to sit in lots of sauce so that the cake part absorbs all the sauce and becomes moist and sticky. Hence 'sticky toffee pudding' I couldn't even finish it it was so dry. We also got brought a bottle of water when we sat down...which we were then charged for. The waitering staff kindly removed it from our bill saying it was for charity....which I found very odd. How can you give your customers something (seemingly for free) and then bill them?

It's such a shame...
