This is my first time ever writing a review on a restaurant. It took me quite a while to figure out how to write a review as you need a Google account to do so . I felt it was necessary as I wouldn't be at peace if I didn't. Firstly when I arrived I used the toilet and washed my hands with soap . Unfortunately the tap wasn't working and I had to leave the bathroom with soap all over my hands and embarrassingly go to the bar to inquire . I was told to wash in the ladies bathroom. I must admit the ladies bathroom had a very noticeable unpleasant smell which wasn't noticed in the men's bathroom, but the tap worked. We went to Amiga primarily for food more than drinks. The menu was very small with limited items, about half a page spread out . This encouraged me to think what food they did serve would be good as primarily it is a restaurant. The menu was misleading, as it says for example, tacos were to share for two. We bought 4 to share out of the 6 that were on offer . We also bought the prawn and chorizo spring rolls . All 3 friends at my table agreed that we couldn't taste any chorizo ! All this was for 3 people and I expected this to be too much food for 3 people as each portion of tacos were for sharing for two people which was written on the menu. When the food arrived, each portion of tacos for sharing were two small round disc tacos approximately 9-10 cm diameter with three bites of meat in each with a couple of shavings of pickled onions and coriander. Each plate cost £14.90 The portion of spring rolls was two rolls . One cut in half laid over the other roll to create the illusion of a bigger serving to justify the price at over £8. My thoughts when all the food was laid on the table were that the amount of food looked like a starter. The food was not authentic mexican . I would say an English slapped up version. The food had no heat/chilli but the table did offer a bottle of store bought vinegar hot sauce . The food was tasty except for the chicken taco . The chicken was old . The taco tasted bland . The service was friendly and brought with a smile but insincere I thought, as the server/owner knew he was robbing us blind! A thief with a smile was my thoughts! Each taco I ate with in 2 bits and what went through my mind was £3.75 / bite and though I should of gone to the mexican restaurant chain tortilla where I would of got at least a burrito for £10 which would be tasty and filling. The staff looked uncomfortable as we ate, I can only presume because they knew we were being over priced and our expression on our faces must have shown this. Halfway through our meal/starter the staff disappeared off the floor into the back for some restbite. My thoughts were the tension got the better of them . I felt the owner/server even though friendly was quiet arrogant as he clearly knew his mediocre version of mexican food was not prepared out of passion and love for authentic food but only for greed of maximum profit. The layout of the restaurant was cosy and ambient but very small . In my opinion customers go to this restaurant more for the cocktails than the food as the cocktails were more fairly priced to London's prices at approximately £10/cocktail. All in all the food and experience left a bitter taste in my mouth due to daylight robbery! Clearly the owner isn't in the game for returning...
Read moreNo idea where the good ratings have come from because the staff here are rude and untrained in basic food safety measures (allergens), and the food was bland. I visited with a friend who had made a booking but when we entered three members of staff all looked at us like they couldn't understand why people would be talking to them. They then stage whispered about where to seat us, having not yet actually spoken to us. We were given menus but after that the waitress kept walking past without checking if we would like to order so I politely asked her if we could please order some drinks. She looked so confused by me addressing her that it was almost as if she were on another planet. Her response was, "Umm yeah?" It was only two drinks, and one of them was wrong. A different waiter topped up our water and put his thumb on the rim of my glass when doing so - unhygienic. We asked which of the tacos had dairy products in them and he said, "Ummm none I think" until we pointed out at that one of them clearly said it contained feta... his reply was to tell us that he didn't think it actually had any feta in it! Then he said "Well it's your dietary requirement so you would know better than me" with a shrug. We had to ask him to go and check with the chef, which he seemed to think was funny. Turns out two of the taco options did in fact contain dairy, so definitely don't visit if you have an allergy because they couldn't give a sh**. The other waitress looked totally zoned out, checking her phone, and quite honestly made us feel very uncomfortable every time we spoke to her, as if she didn't want us there. When the drinks arrived they were mediocre and the tacos were totally bland. There were three on each plate so after we'd tried one each we left the third because they weren't good at all, yet no one bothered to ask why we had left so much food or if there was a problem with it. Guac and chips also costs £8 which is insane even in London. All in all a totally bizarre experience, which I wouldn't...
Read moreThe staff were outrageously rude to us, I honestly think they were all high or just purposefully being awful. It was like we were being pranked. My fish tacos were dry and my friend's pork tacos were swimming in cooking oil. When we told the staff they just told us "this is pork" and didn't offer us a replacement. When we complained one waitress literally smirked at us and said "enjoy" and then walked away. We were being so polite in our requests for noew food and they were basically laughing at us. We had to ask for the manager because it was just ridiculous, and when he arrived he did apologise and take the mains off our bill. BUT he thought it would be a great idea to sit at our table (uninvited) with a bottle of tequila and 3 shots and MANSPLAIN to us in great detail about how to properly drink tequila, telling us we were doing it wrong, and not letting us get a word in. We still had food in front of us at this point, which had gone cold. We hadn't even had a chance to talk to each other all night because we were just dealing with horrible staff, and now this random man has sat himself at our table and is mansplaining like crazy, oblivious to how uncomfortable he's making us. Also if he'd have asked he'd know we've both worked on bars for years and know what we're doing, we're also grown up women who've been drinking liquids all our lives. Honestly just the most bizarre experinece from a restaurant that seemed to have great reviews. You couldn't pay me to go back. OH and my friend was sick all the next morning from her disgusting...
