We came to the Northcote one spring afternoon for a roast dinner. I ordered the pork belly which is my favourite cut. The food arrived extremely quickly, it soon became apparent that corners had been cut. The gravy was not gravy as such, it was more a meat flavoured water much like a beef stock. The cabbage was severely under cooked, the potatoes were anemic; boiled not roasted, the Yorkshire was impressive in size but had been in the oven for far too long, or it may have been cooked and then reheated. The pork belly itself was good although nothing special, it was cooked well, lacking only in a crispy pork crackling top. The caulicheese had no bechamel sauce it is purely blanched cauliflower with melted cheddar. Really this should be one star however they did manage to cook some Pork.

The Northcote is really the epitome of Clapham (despite being Battersea really). Everyone knows Northcote Road and everyone knows The Northcote. The pub itself is actually fairly generic, apart from being on a busy corner with large windows bathing it in natural light. *The* pub for the Clapham sect (little history reference for you buffs) so expect gilets, blokes called Monty, lots of blondes, discussions about skiing trips etc…..you get the idea. This isn’t a criticism - it’s got a fun and youthful vibe, in many ways it’s a local institution and a must visit. Only quibble is that the beer selection could and should be much better. Given the crowd they really should be showcasing some good craft beer.

Sunday Roast! Booked a table for two to try the Sunday roast for the first time, we were welcomed by a cheerful member of the staff as a nice start... We were seated on the first floor, very nice and quiet location. The food we ordered was amazing, we had two roast combination (it seems big but worth of it), water and triple cooked chips... delicious! They are fast as well, I suggest to to order maybe trough their app! What can I say, the staff is helpful and always smiling making you feel welcomed! Definitely we'll come back!

Went in for lunch and drinks on Eng v Scot game. Great table and atmosphere and the Guinness and Murphy’s were quality. And bar staff were fine. The problem came with the food and the attitude of the woman who served us. She was wearing a black striped cream jumper with dark long hair. She put down two steak and chips with the guys ate. Tasty and well cooked but tepid. The main issue was my chicken schnitzel on sour dough and my friends fish and chips. The f&c looked like leather they were so over cooked / dirty oil. A brandy snap would be a good description! My chicken was mahogany in colour and clearly a chicken burger not schnitzel and in toasted brown bread. We flagged this to the woman who was very rude and defensive. The colour of the food wasn’t due to over cooking apparently it is just how it comes out and if we want another it’ll be just the same. And fish is specifically like that due to using cider in the batter. Cider is quite light and the amount you actually put in for batter is neglible so this is nonsense. And Irish pub used to put Guinness in the batter and their batter was always normal if it was cooked well in clean oil. Just own it that is was badly cooked and resolve it. Don’t argue and spout nonsense!! As for the chicken the woman told me the burger and the schnitzel were the same thing (!) and that is was sour dough. Again why make things up.

Long story short, food was awful, got a couple of different dishes instead which were better but mediocre (if you say sausages and colcannon, plain mash isn’t colcannon!!), woman was rude, pub was nice. Don’t offer a full menu on match days if you...

This afternoon I experienced probably the worst customer service of life, and am still in complete shock.

After the wrong drinks were brought to our table, two female staff came over in a confrontational manner and one ended up making a particularly rude comment to my cousin, after which I had to interrupt and ask her to please stop - at this point the staff member realised she had overstepped the line and apologised for what she had said (so very much understood she was in the wrong) they then left us. Five minutes later another female staff member (I assume a manager) came over (we actually assumed to apologise to us at first) and said she’s been informed we’ve been aggressive towards her staff and need to finish our drinks and leave. In absolute shock I attempted to explain what had actually happened, but they did not want to hear a word of it. Even the strangers behind us confirmed that we had not been remotely aggressive and it was in fact the complete opposite, but this manager did not care to believe any of us.

I absolutely support staff supporting colleagues and not putting up with being treated aggressively or wrongfully by customers. This however was not at all the case today, and a large number of customers witnessed how rude and unnecessarily confrontational 3 members of staff actually were.

We obviously left without a fuss and will never return. The worst and most embarrassing customer...

Ordered a Caesar salad that came to £15 which was wildly over-priced for a measly portion of lettuce (although the chicken was okay). Waited for what seemed like a very long amount of time for the food, considering there were very few people eating and we had just ordered a sandwich, salad and chips. I had requested dressing on the side, but no dressing arrived. After reminding the waitress, I was almost half finished the salad before she returned with the dressing. I had to spoon some out as the consistency was too thick to pour. But after mixing with my salad I realised it didn’t taste right and definitely didn’t taste like Caesar dressing. I informed the waitress that I thought it might have been tartar sauce but considering I was very hungry at this stage, I was willing to continue eating until I could pour some actual Caesar dressing on it, rather than send it back. Another few minutes later, waitress returns and tries to persuade me that what I had been given was Caesar dressing, but that the chef ‘just added too much dill’ … Again, I was still hungry at this point and we had already paid through the app, so I convinced myself I must’ve been wrong and kept eating. Upon later reflection (and judgement less clouded by hunger!) I realised that what I had been given definitely wasn’t Caesar dressing, both due to taste and because caesar doesn’t contain dill. Very...
