Good customer service, inconsistent dishes but thankfully not too much salt - we would order again.

We have ordered the same dishes a few times and have had different results, which we do understand for various reasons.

The issue is we know the difference between cooked within the last 4 hours and cooked way before that, as Jamaicans we know that Jamaican dishes can be cooked day one and taste even better the next day, but sometimes depending on the cook meat can sometimes be overcooked, or the core ingredients improvised. Like tonight, the jerk lamb had more of a 'browning' taste than the taste of Jerk seasoning, whereas the last 2 times definitely had the kick of scotch bonnet and skellion etc.

The festival tonight was good, but not as good as last time (so fresh) but the time before that was so old and dry we almost didn't order it again.

The sticky chilli chicken was amazing but I may have got the name wrong because it was not on the menu tonight, so tonight I once again ordered the sweet chilli chicken wings - totally different to the last time I ordered sweet chilli wings, tonight's version was a bit old (cooked a while ago, maybe yesterday), but taste was good - tasted twice cooked if you know what I mean.

The mac cheese has come in different forms, from pasta with runny cheese sauce thrown on it to a more baked and "as expected" mac-cheese dish.

Like I said in the first sentence this take-away's saving grace is that they have never, in the time we have ordered, used too much salt, so that is VERY GOOD (other Caribbean restaurants use so much salt I need a number of glasses of water after to stop my tongue from hurting!) Except the callaloo - it is always laden with salt.

Overall we do recommend...

I am so happy I discovered this wonderful black owned (hopefully) and staffed shop after an IG post. However I went in today and saw a number of what seemed like Indian staff which would have been okay if the service I had received hadn’t gone downhill when compared to all the previous times I had entered the shop. To be honest the Indian male was wondered he moved fast and understood the assignment but the hijabi in green with glasses was very incompetent within her role and unfortunately she was my server she didn’t know what bulla was so I had to repeat myself a number of times until the guy came to her rescue but your working in a carribean shop surely you should know the culture and what is on the menu she then couldn’t figure out how to work the till to give me back my change and finally after a consistent helping hand from the Indian guy I got my change back. I thought after waiting a while for my change let me just add a cake onto my order so I asked the incompetent female server how much would be to add on a cake. She gave me my change and told me the customer that she didn’t know and to ask the Indian guy who was clearly busy because she was new and didn’t know the price. I was shocked and didn’t want to cause a seen so I left. My point writing this post isn’t to shame our nice clean shop but to alert management to hire the correct energy for the shop. I’m sure a youth or person from our community would have done a much better job, know the products and cared about customer service. Overall everything else is great and I will be returning hopefully without seeing the incompetent hijabi with glasses who brought down the wonderful experience I have had each and every time previously....

I'm very disappointed to have to write a negative review. I visited first thing in the morning and ordered a lot of things to takeaway and travelled very far as I was impressed by the reviews this bakery had garnered via social media. The customer service was very friendly, but the horror begins when I got home and realised I had been scammed. The patties I ordered for takeaway were all incorrect, I asked in clear English before I ordered if they had the oxtail or ackee and saltfish patties as these are the ones I wanted to try the most. I was told they had all patties except ackee and saltfish. I was quite excited and ordered a lot of things and the server even wrote down which patty was which on the paper bag. When I got home and started eating the patties the fillings didn't match with the descriptions for example I ordered oxtail patties and instead of an oxtail filling I got all beef and instead of a pumpkin and chickpea filling I was given a lentil and chickpea filling. I couldn't believe it and it hurts so bad because I don't even live in the local area to go regularly, the server was very nice to me but was a liar, and the patties that were sold to me were cheaper than the ones I thought I was getting. Please be more honest with customers in the future if you don't have the correct items for sale don't ever lie or deceive people its wrong and absolutely disgusting, not to mention this place is quite busy so you its not like you're not getting business just greedy! I don't think I would ever have the confidence to go back here in the future, you just don't know what you're getting when you...

There is an abundance of Jamaican patties in London but one should make trip to Bakers Dozen Caribbean Roots because they have all the patties under the sun from Lobster, Fish, Prawn, Vegetarians options to Oxtail!! Located in a residential area, it is off the radar from the city but expect queues and a wait before you get served. Luckily, they are well stocked so you won't be disappointed. As well as patties they have fried chicken, noodles, prawn dishes, mac and cheese so your complete Caribbean fix is right in front of you!! I got there around 16:23 and the tiny shop was filled with people and when I left around 16:40 there was a long queue outside!! Since it was a one off visit I got the lobster, prawn, fish, jerk chicken and oxtail patty! The star of the show is definitely the lobster and this is probably the only place you can get it in London and for £3.50 it would be a sin not to try. For that price, I don't expect chunks of lobsters but I found some crustacean pieces which could be red prawn or lobster but I give it the benefit of doubt that it is lobster. Overall, I found the lobster, prawn and fish very similar because the filling was mixed with pumpkin and it was very spicy and salty. The oxtail patty is also worth trying because this is the only way it is boneless and it was minced very finely, again I give it the benefit of doubt that it is oxtail. To summarize, I am glad I tried this place.

3.5 | while I enjoyed the food, this is a generous rating given the food was not hot and needed to be microwaved as an option in store. I think the biggest downside to this spot is that the patties aren’t kept in some sort of heated oven or made in batches. because of that, I opted to have the patty as is without microwave given I do not enjoy a soggy or non-crispy patty. the filling options were great. I tried the lobster, oxtail, and my vegan cousin had the plantain and rlly enjoyed it. it’s just they weren’t even warm. I also got the bbq chicken and rice and peas, and it tasted good, just again, not hot. I think once the workflow is sorted to keep the food a certain temp or have a system to make to order, they would be rlly amazing. they also might have too many menu options which could be hurting the workflow. obviously people love them because the demand is high, but maybe just take the patties home and put them in the oven yourself. wishing them the best!

I bought a patty that was so delicious that I returned to the shop and purchased six more patties along with a juice. The juice I selected was seamoss mixed with another ingredient. It was too thick and lacked flavor. I often make seamoss gel for myself, and when I prepare seamoss juice, it has a distinct taste. I expressed my disappointment, even though the staff were very courteous. The juice was intended for my mother, who didn’t enjoy it, but they claimed everyone likes it that way. This is how the drink is supposed to be made; however, if it doesn’t suit me as a customer, they could have offered a refund or exchanged it for a drink that is less bland and thick like a gel. It resembled a gel and was marketed as a juice. It was unfortunate because I really liked the patty. I chose not to argue and decided to take my business elsewhere.
