I've been going to Negril for years now and have always spoken highly of it, but my last two visits have fallen far below par.
Both visits in July and August, they were short staffed with only one person on the floor serving.
In July, we waited over 20 minutes to get the bill paid.
On today's visit, we ordered, and half an hour later were still waiting. I had to flag the waitress as we had not received our table water either, in 33°c heat. I pointed out that one our tables was unstable, a screw was missing, so the table kept wobbling. She shrugged her shoulders and didn't know what to suggest as it was busy. I asked if a smaller table could be swapped in but as they were smaller she said they wouldn't fit the platter. I left it at that and we made it work as best we could.
My partner ordered a drink which was the placed heavily on the table, not next to him, but on the other side of the table. There were no smiles and she was unfriendly in general. Unfortunately she had been working alone for nearly six hours, but it's not right that we beared the brunt of this.
Halfway through our meal, another waitress started her shift, who was much perkier and had a pleasant manner. However, at the end when we asked to remove the service charge, her demeanour quickly changed. She became instantly moody and after we had paid, she didn't say thank you or goodbye, she walked straight off. Had we received a proper service we would have been happy to pay service as we usually do.
This was a really disappointing meal, and having my mum down to visit, I was looking forward to showcasing Negril, but have left feeling slightly embarrassed. I'll be thinking twice before...
Read moreI was skeptical as soon as i saw the menu to this place dishes such as tofu curry, three bean curry and lime mayonnaise already had convinced me this was not going to be great (coming from a Jamaican family i already knew that tofu is the least authentic ingredient anyone could have in a Jamaican restaurant) . Unfortunately the service was slow and with a bit of an attitude, i was there with a big group for a friends birthday and we were recommended to get platters by one waitress. When some of us decided we didn't want to go with shared platters we got told "now your food is going to take a long time because you didn't go with what was recommended"!
Not only this but they ask you to bring your own beer and then charge you £2.50 per person for the beer YOU purchased YOURSELF from the shops - outrageous!
After waiting an hour in the freezing cold (they have no outdoor heaters but have a large outdoor seating area) the food came (you cant tell me curry and stews take an hour as they are surely pre-cooked anyway). The portion was very small considering i was paying £2 for 1 roti and almost 10 pounds for the curry. To top it off after all that the curry was average and a bit watery it was meant to be spicy and it had barely a hint of chilli in it.
Then the friend whose birthday i was there for, got her happy birthday they brought a candle on one tiny slice of cake (yet there was a party of about 15 of us) she was disappointed as she was expecting a whole cake. Lack of attention to detail, lack of service with a smile and overpriced. This is Fake-maican...
Read moreI have given one star as I can't post a review otherwise! I wasn't going write a review, since I have not eaten at Negril but because of the inconvenience caused I've decided to put pen to paper. I called on 27th August to make a booking for 13 for 31st August at 8pm. I was not advised at that time that the booking was not confirmed. I received an email yesterday 30th August asking if I wanted to confirm my booking for 6pm. Upon calling the restaurant I was advised that there was already a booking for 8pm and my party couldn't be accommodated. I was already disappointed that I couldn't view an online menu (there's only a takeaway menu available on line) and also being told when I made my original phone call that we would be restricted to ordering platters and not individual dishes because of the size of the party! I've never been to say, a Chinese or Indian restaurant and been restricted to what I can order because of the size of the party! To say the professionalism or customer service astounds me is an understatement! I had had good feedback about this place but now won't bother. How can you take a booking from a customer and lead them to believe it's confirmed & then email (not even phone) them on the day before the booking to advise them that it's not confirmed, leaving them less than 24 hours to make alternative arrangements?? You only get one chance to make a first impression and on this occasion it...
