Let me start by saying that this review isn’t about the food, the drinks, or the staff at the Crown & Sceptre — all of which, by many accounts, are perfectly fine. This is about what happens during the weekend and also after last call, when the crowd pours out onto the surrounding streets: Montrell Road, New Park Road, and the nearby residential areas. First, they’ve open an open club on their terrace that blasts music in such a loud volume that you can hear it 2 streets around, that should be illegal, we need peace in our houses and our streets and it’s just nuisance. Then, every weekend, particularly from Friday to Sunday, between 2 and 3 AM, those of us who live nearby are treated to an unofficial afterparty we didn’t ask for. Groups of people leave the pub visibly intoxicated, shouting, screaming, arguing, laughing loudly, sometimes even blasting music from their cars. Many seem to have driven to the pub, because a surprising number pick up their cars in this state and drive off — which, frankly, is worrying. Parking spaces are taken up late into the night, litter such as bottles, cans and takeaway containers are often left behind, and the peace of the neighbourhood is regularly disrupted. For families, shift workers, elderly neighbours, or anyone who just wants a good night’s sleep, this has become a weekly stress. Now, to be clear: I’m not saying the pub is directly responsible for how every customer behaves once they leave the premises. But when this happens so consistently, week after week, it’s fair to expect the establishment to take some degree of responsibility for the type of environment it’s fostering. A simple step like putting up clear signage asking guests to leave quietly, training door staff to monitor noise levels as people exit, or even collaborating with local authorities on solutions would show a willingness to be part of the community — not just a business in it. The local council has already been informed of the ongoing disturbances. It would be unfortunate if the situation escalates to involve more serious enforcement or restrictions — especially when a bit of proactive effort from the pub’s management could make a big difference. This review is not written out of spite, but out of frustration shared by many who live here. We all understand that pubs are places to unwind and enjoy. But once the doors close, the respect for the neighbourhood shouldn’t end there.

OPEN AGAIN. After 4 days the pub reopened as the Crown and Sceptre . There is a new management team, no one knows exactly who the owners of the building are now. It seems for the time being they are maintaining a good price structure for beer and wine, matching Wetherspoon prices CLOSED. Sunday 24th February 2019, the owners JD Wetherspoons decided that it was better to move out than to repair the building. No one knows what is happening next . This was my local for over 15 years. The most amazing thing was that they decided that they would deny that they were closing and never said goodbye to any of their regular customers. How can that be customer care? Anyway good riddance JD Wetherspoons.

The staff here are extreamly pleasant and courteous. They smile and have a chat which makes a very welcome change. The garden area is comfortable and nicely furnished . And I must say it may not be the most upmarket venue , but take it from me some of these posh venues treat you with utter contempt do not smile and are quite hostile. Although some customers have a quite unpleasant attitude , The staff are a great asset . It could do with new carpet , and a lick of paint. Do go there good for families and get together. Full marks.

Went to the Crown & Sceptre with my 3 year old daughter. She was born premature and it has been quite a struggle to encourage her to catch up with kids of her age. From time to time she acts out, but it is a stage and she's doing well all considered. Her mother was ill and asked me to take her for dinner somewhere so she could recoup. At any rate, given the establishments kids licence until 09:00pm, I imagined it would be fine to take her there for something to eat, but that didn't pan out as expected. Their two menus although out on display on every table, were just not functional at all, but I was told that I could order Chicken or Beef enchiladas only, and proceeded to do so. OK, not a Michelin style restaurant, but it's not the food I'm here to gripe about. At some point toward the end of the meal, my daughter got bored and started to run around. I was always within 2 meters of her to make sure she didn't do anything stupid, but lo and behold, she managed to. The - not sure exactly how I would classify it other than "I don't want to be rude" decorative theme of the establishment had Chinese plastic flowers in pots at just about every nook and cranny as far as the eye can see. My daughter picked up one of them and I assumed "OK these are plastic, it's probably quite safe". She was playing a game with it, pretending to smell them and saying "Aaah". It was really quite cute. Little did I realise that these plastic flower pots actually had soil in them. I mean who'dv thunk it huh? Anyway she dropped the pot and soil went on the floor. Really wasn't expecting that, so went to the bar immediately; apologised profusely and told them what had happened. I then took my kid, sat her down and gave her my phone that has Peppa Pig on it to calm her down and started to dress her to leave. Next thing I know this guy behind the bar starts yelling at me at the top of his voice about how I should discipline my kid RIGHT NOW! Look. I don't believe in slapping my daughter around for any reason, let alone something so entirely petty, so I told him so. ie: That it is not appropriate for him to tell me how I should raise my child. Of course I have been "banned" from the place now forever more for having the temerity to remind this guy of my natural rights but hey ho. Christ! Frankly it's dive anyway so no great loss our end. I will continue to NOT beat the living #### out of my daughter because some arbitrary palooka seems to think it's a good idea, and we will get along just fine without you, thanks.

For those with young kids who decide to go there for food that isn't available because of their kids licence; don't forget to pack the cane, I'm sure you're going to need...

Updated review:

Today myself, a friend and kids went to our regular Crown and SCeptre in Streatham hill, went to order and realised the menu was totally different. I was wondering what is going on and why our regular meals are no longer on the list. I found out there was a new ownership and is no longer a Wetherspoons. I remembered reading something a newspaper a while ago but I completely forgot. We said to give it a try anyways. So, to give you some updates, meals don't come with a drink anymore, fries are the cheap frozen ones deep fried, the portions on the small plates are ridiculously small, burgers are terrible ..no longer juicy but plain and dry and overall the size of a menu is half of a size of what it used to be. Food for children is terrible, we got the pizza but didn't look like one and I never seen in my life such a small portion for kids. My daughters said she can't eat it because is too hard and my son didn't even touch it because it didn't look like a pizza. They no longer bring cuttlery to the table, you must go and pick it up, staff tried to be helpful but unfortunately food was so disappointing. also, they don't have all the sauces and dips as before. different drinks menu as well. I was so sad taht we lost our regular pub. You can't just come and buy this business and have such bad food when the previous business was great. If you are replacing a great business the new one has to be at least to the same level as the previous one in particular when it's the same type of pun. People who come to this pub are regular customers and it was always busy. I was actually wondering why the parking was free on a Saturday as normally it's very crowded. Now i know. I do not recommend and I wouldn't go back.

This is the review I left a year ago. Rating 5 starts: I have been living in the area for about 4 years or so but never been to this pub until very recent. The food is really nice, you have all kind of options..even for those who are on a diet. Unbelievable prices on everything, nice staff, nice food and plenth of options. I really...
