🚇 Stoke Newington 🍺 £5.90 Pravha
The Birdcage is located at the northern end of Stoke Newington on the border with Stamford HIll. The nearest station is Stoke Newington on the Weaver Line.
This imposing corner pub was established in 1732 then rebuilt in 1892 for Truman’s.
This is a bright and airy one bar pub that has a contemporary feel. The focal point of the pub is the stylish island servery which is clad in granite. The decor consists of a boarded and geometric tiled floor, lots of comfy seating, exposed brickwork walls plus some colourful murals. The main bar area is bathed in light from the huge picture windows, just off the main bar is an area set aside for dining.
The beer line up was a good mix of mainstream and craft beers plus one cask ale. I decided on a Pravha, my pint was excellent, price point was just below average. The food menu consists of classic pub grub, Fish & Chips costs £16, Roasts are served on a Sunday.
I arrived just before 6pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon in June. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with a Indie classics soundtrack playing in the background. The pub was fairly quiet, there were about half a dozen local punters enjoying a few drinks. The service was first class, I got talking to the manager who was funny and personable.
The pub hosts live music, Jazz Jam sessions and a regular quiz night.
Visiting this Stoke Newington pub was a pleasant experience. This is a stylish contemporary boozer that mixes comfortable surroundings with good old fashioned hospitality. The beer choice will please most and is not overly expensive, the food is much loved and receives glowing reviews. Church Street tends to attract the majority of drinkers in this area but The @birdcage_stokenewington is well worth a visit just up the road.

Read more4 🌟 stars for the positive design changes. I used to visit quite regularly when the pub was managed by different people. I went back yesterday and the staff were friendly. I can say that the food quality varies. I ordered Korean BBQ chicken wings and the chef decided to pour this mayonnaise all over it 😲 I was like what on earth is this 🫣 🤮 the wings were 🔥 burnt. When I brought it to the attention of the server he said the chef said this is how the wings are served.i think if you are serving cuisine from a different culture you should try to be authentic??? I couldn't even eat the mess and wasn't offered an alternative or my money back. Definitely not going back there. Poor...
Read moreBirdcage is a really pleasant pub with wide selection of beer (around 20 taps, 2 beers from cask were available when I was there). Beer prices range from 4,5 to 7 GBP. The service is quick and nice, we did not have to wait at all, but it's worth noting that we were one of the few customers around noon on Easter Monday.
The kitchen is serving a large variety of food: from fish and chips (a really honest amount, tasty, bit too fatty overall for my taste), burgers (all right), chicken wings (tasty, but could be a bit more moist) to pizza and subs that I haven't tried. Food prices...
