After a "remodelling", this very busy restaurant keeps its two main glaring issues, with an added big downgrade on top:
I have been going to this taqueria since it opened as the tacos served were delicious and cheap. However there were always two main problems:
Very poor system to manage the influx of people standing around waiting for their orders inside in a very tight space whilst others are trying to order or eat. Very slow at getting orders out, which contributes greatly to the chaos inside the taqueria.
I heard they recently remodelled the restaurant and thought these would be the main action points as they are very obvious. I was disappointed to see that's not the case at all.
These exact same issues persist, they have just closed the old sitting area at the back of the restaurant and moved the counter forward (which is fair enough as it was pretty bad down there anyways).
With all this extra space, one would think they would have expanded the kitchen, especially since it's always so crowded in there with people waiting, well, you'd be wrong.
Here comes the big downgrade though; they are not even serving fully assembled dishes anymore. There is now a "toppings bar" (which is unsanitary, if you ask me), meaning they serve you tacos with meat and you do the rest.
It also seems there is less people working in the kitchen than before. This is such a wrong, weird call in my opinion as good tacos are all about balance, that's why people go to restaurants such as this one, as they are supposedly the experts at that.
I also felt the meat quality has worsened, specifically on the steak tacos.
Very disappointed overall, probably won't go back as I don't feel it's worth it anymore, at least until the issues are addressed properly and not with...
🦌🇲🇽 To the people of London , you don’t know how lucky you are , im first generation Mexican from phoenix , a city about 180 miles away from the border of Sonora. We have mostly Mexicans from Sonora here as well as Sinaloa. And to say Sonora tacos are some of the best can be an understatement. Sonora uses mesquite, we can have a variety of seasonings but the base of a great carne asada is salt , black pepper , garlic on a skirt steak. Or a thin marbled meat. and you can add some things or not. I’ve noticed Sinaloa likes just salt and maybe pepper. But they also have great meat. So not everyone can get away with that. If you want some good tacos. Come to Sonora taqueria and if you can make the trip maybe even go to Sonora but definitely do you’re research as we’ve been having ongoing cartel conflicts. Maybe puerto peñasco is you’re best bet. It’s a popular tourist area. Mis mejores deseos les mando y que viva sonora...
Read moreI am local and have been coming here a while. This business has totally changed now. They used to be distinguished by their good meat, and the handiwork they'd put into assembling their distinctive tacos.
Now, after a refit of the shop, it's all gone downhill.
The meat has changed and seems cheap and nasty.
Customers are expected to help themselves to ingredients, out of tubs. Yukk!!! Very unhygienic.
There are few staff, different people from before, and all they are doing is taking payment & pushing trays over.
Rather than locals, the shop is full of shouty tourists ... who've obviously fallen for some new marketing campaign.
They've dived low. And they've dived cheap. Whole place looks like a SIDES Chicken !
One star, because of the disappointment. Even if the tacos are 2-star, who cares?
If you heard good things about the old Sonora Taqueria, and wanted to try it, sorry, you left your run too...
