We used to go here fairly often. With kids it's practical. Service is a bit haphazard normally but if lucky could be fairly quick so you can be in and out.
The only reason I'm not leaving one star is because of the above.
My last visit was a complete disaster on every level. If it had been just bad service or mediocre food I would have stomached it but the mix of inept and rude staff, massive delays, total lack of communication and no effort to right several wrongs was too much. I will def not be going back.
For those who want more specifics, in a nutshell: I went in just to get fries for my little girl. My husband joined with our babies and said you know what lets all eat here. I got an eye roll from the waitress. I kid you not! You'd think they'd be happy I'm going to spend literally ten times more. We ordered drinks which never came we ordered food that never came People came after us and had two rounds of drinks, starters then their mains and we had not even been given our drinks when we asked where our food was no one could tell us and would tell us we had to stop three different ppl to ask what was going on. each would vanish never to return by this time i was running late for a meeting and an hour had passed Someone finally came to us and said they had forgotten us but that the food was coming By then the babies were up, hungry and crying we barely ate the food which was mediocre at best and asked for the bill they offered us dessert on the house (you kidding me, after waiting for over an hour for food, me late for a meeting and with three crying kids dying of hunger?!)
And to add the ultimate insult to injury they slightly overcharged us.
It's a shame as it's round the corner from us but I will never go back. The lack of decency from the staff and utter inability to take responsibility and initiative to correct grave mistakes or even just communicate that they completely messed up left me underwhelmed..to...
Read moreJust ordered from here via deliveroo. I am very disappointed, after waiting over an hour for the food to arrive I was very hungry and was I looking forward to those burnt ends I love so much in order to aid my hang over recovery due to last nights shenanigans. To my disappointment my food arrived colder than a parents love for a red headed step-child! (no offence to all the red heads out there) Not only was the food stone cold but both my beloved burnt ends and the ribs tasted too salty and did not taste to the standard I am used to. If I was eating in the restaurant the food would have got sent back quicker than you can say "hair of dog".
I am quite angry because I paid £17 (£19 including delivery) for cold food (chips were thrown away because you cant microwave them!) and the food I did reheat tasted horrid. I know that the food being cold was not the fault of the delivery driver because using the app on my phone I tracked the delivery which took less then 10 mins. I dont live far from the site, so I logically assume that the fault is that of Bodeans.
I have (for many years) been a customer at the site in Clapham. I have never had any complaints and have always had a great experience both eating in and take out, so for my first time eating from the Balham site there is a bitter taste left in my mouth (no pun intended).
I ended up throwing it all out apart from the coleslaw; which ended up between 2 pieces of bread and a slice of billy bear ham. The sarnie was yummy but defiantly not worth £19 (and i provided my own bread and billy bear ham) and I would like to know why my Sunday hangover cure was so disappointing and what Bodeans plan to do to...
Read moreGreat food, terrible service - go up the road to Clapham.
I'm a huge fan of Bodeans and have been to both the Soho and Clapham restaurants many many times. I was of course really excited to find out one was opening round the corner from my parent's house.
The first two times we attempted to drop in we were met with some disdain on hearing that we had not in fact booked as if it was La Gavroche that we were attempting to gain access to rather than another in a chain of moderately nice, mid-range restaurants. Well it's new and there is likely to be some initial buzz... let's wait for it to die down a bit and check it out.
Last night we finally had a booked table and went along. The waiting staff, particularly the man who seemed to be manager, seemed focused on getting us out as possible. Using our q-card seemed to be unpopular and the whole evening was tarnished by the reception. Particularly as this was my father's birthday and we were hoping for a pleasant evening.
The food was as excellent as ever and no complaints...
