Well where to begin. Now I know why we stopped going there. Used to be quite regular as I work nearby, first time I'd been for a couple of years ( COVID etc). On the night I visited, they had a huge choice of one ale, Sambrooks Junction, an average ale at best, if you look at the image on the Google listing of beer in a jug, you should be able to see through it, like the one I've attached, the beer I got was worse than the one they picture on the Google listing. The fish and chips were mediocre, you can see from their own picture how many chips you get, these are "triple fried", and some of them had done the full course at least 3 times, stick a fork in and they shatter. Portion of mushy peas in a thimble. Sorry, but disappointed, the first and last time I'll eat here and probably the last time I'll drink here as well. Over priced, only redeeming factors, the decor and the young lady serving in the dining area. Update: 15/10/24 I had the misfortune to be invited to the Wheatsheaf for a couple after work. I was the last to arrive, queued at the bar, tenner in hand, four people who came in after me were served before me, finally I was asked what I wanted, once again they had Sambrooks Junction on, so I asked for a pint, he went off to serve someone else, young guy dyed hair, black shirt, eventually got served by someone else, the beer was far too cold for an ale, cloudy and tasted awful, decided to drink it as I'd waited to long to get it, and probably longer to get it changed, made my mind up to have a Guinness for my next. 3* for food , wanted to order but one of us had to go and find someone to take the order, this was in the restaurant area. Good was of acceptable but not exceptional quality. 1* for service, see above. 3* for atmosphere, all hard surfaces, so noise just bounces off and everyone has too outshout the next table to be heard, that's why we elected to sit in the restaurant area. There are better places, to be polite about it.

In a crowded market of chain pubs and soulless beer gardens, the Wheatsheaf in Tooting is an absolute breath of fresh air. Since moving to the area the pub has become my local, fitting of a plethora of social gatherings and providers of some proper tasty locally sourced grub and good beer (the cocktails aren't bad too!). The Wheatsheaf has given us great times on many occasion, whether that be catching a friend in town, sampling the best Sunday Roast I've had this side of the river or getting swept up in the euphoria of the European championships. The quiz and open mic's are also worthy of a mention here, all part of the huge efforts the staff take to create a real sense of community and energy. Whilst under the umbrella of a larger vision and management team (Urban Pubs), the place boasts character and individual charm. The sticky toffee pudding will always be my favourite, and shoutout to Ali who has served us brilliantly on many day, his personal touch really leaves a lasting impression. A lovely city pub whatever you need, and a nice place for an ice cold Guinness.

I was really excited about trying this place, as it was recommended to me. Unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. The service was very slow - a group of people who were sat down a good hour after we had arrived got their food very quickly, where our group waiting a good half an hour. The pork belly was quite tough, and there was no crackling whatsoever. The outer part that was meant to be crackling was rubbery. I’ve tried a lot of pork belly and this was one of the worst. The roast beef was very tough as well even though that was the most expensive beef out of the two beef options. The carrot wasn’t cooked at all. Decent Yorkshire and the gravy was divine. The cabbage dish was soggy on a bed of water. Chips were fine. The only saving Grace was the sticky toffee pudding which is saying something as I don’t tend to have a pudding. Great dessert wine and margarita. I understand it’s busy and the need for the table back so others can enjoy a roast, but having the waitress basically saying you need to leave now put a dampener on the whole thing.

Many pubs and restaurants claim to do the best Sunday roast but the only one that consistently delivers on that is the Wheatsheaf in Tooting Bec. My partner and I, friends and family love their Sunday roast or to be more precise, their lamb roast with all the trimmings. It is truly second to none, hands down the best we have had, and believe me we have tried many others.

The truth is I don't understand why so many get it wrong. This is our national dish and it shouldn't be that difficult for chefs to get it consistently right but they do. Anyway, thank goodness for this pub.

We fell in love with their Sunday roast when we came for my partner's birthday February of this year and we have come back many, many times since. The Sunday lamb roast is so good, it is borderline addictive. Don't spread the word because we always want to be able to to get a table when we want!! Advance booking is definitely recommended.

Aside from that, there's a great general menu catering for modern food preferences and it's a thriving and well used fantastically run British pub with lots of wonderful things on...

Fantastic Service and a Delicious Roast at The Wheatsheaf - Thanks to Flynn!

We recently enjoyed a wonderful Sunday roast at The Wheatsheaf, and a big part of what made our experience so enjoyable was our fantastic waiter, Flynn. From the moment we were seated, Flynn was attentive, friendly, and genuinely seemed to care about ensuring we had a great meal.

He was quick to take our order, patiently answered our questions about the different roast options, and even offered some helpful recommendations. Throughout our meal, Flynn was always on hand to check if we needed anything, without being intrusive. His service was efficient and professional, and he always had a smile on his face, creating a really welcoming atmosphere.

Beyond the excellent service, the roast itself was absolutely delicious! It was a truly traditional and satisfying Sunday lunch. However, Flynn's exceptional service really elevated the experience.

We will definitely be returning to The Wheatsheaf for another roast, and we hope we'll have the pleasure of being served by Flynn again. Highly...
