Update: The owner is claiming that this is a fake review and that they will be willing to prosecute me over delivering a 1 star rating. I will update this from a 1 star with no text to a 2 star with my reasoning, so that the review is not as emotional as per what occurred on the Friday of my order, but based on the facts, so let's look at them below.
Disclaimer: All items were 20% off, and when complaining about the paneer's portion size as in the attached image, we were met with the response that we received 20% off and if we want more, we can pay for it. We were so disappointed with the portion that we had a knee-jerk reaction and requested a refund on that item before calling the restaurant. That was an emotional response, but on reflection probably the best course of action given how the telephone attendant spoke with us. Quite frankly, if you are going to reduce portion sizes or quality because you are offering food at a discount, you need to understand that most of your customers would rather pay the full price. I don't think anything further needs to be said here.
Ordered:
Chilli Chicken - £11.55. Thought this was great, a lot more spicy than any other restaurant I've eaten at before but very flavoursome and would gladly order this dish again; though it is a bit expensive.
Tandoori Baby Chicken - £9.55. Flavour was good, but not great, nor terrible. Just good. The portion for the price was very, very small and I thought average tasting for what it cost.
Garlic Naan - £3.85. Cold and soggy, and probably 8 to 10 inches in diameter, at best? Very poor value, even if it arrived hot. I'm sure the taste would have been fine at the very least, though.
Pilau Rice - £4.25. Very small portion for the price. Any Chinese restaurant in the area serves around 50% more rice for a standard egg fried rice and will rarely charge the same as, or more than £4.25 for their regular portion. There is enough rice to satisfy one individual, and is just as you would expect of it.
Raita - £3.05. Again, expensive for just raita, but the portion size was good and cannot complain about that, at least. It was an average raita, not the best, and not the worst; just in the middle.
Chilli Paneer - £5.05. See image. In fairness to the restaurant, there's a fourth piece of paneer under the red/orange pepper. We were told that this is the expected portion size and assured that this was normal. Being Indians who have probably eaten at hundreds of Indian restaurants throughout our years, we have never seen that as a regular portion, no matter what has been paid for it. No reasonable restaurant offers a chilli paneer starter, at any price point, where you receive 4 pieces of paneer or less. I definitely believe that statement...
Read moreEnjoyed my meal from Bombay Nights (I've eaten in the restaurant and ordered previously). Veg jalfrezi was very hot and flavoursome; not the variety of veggies that something like Tiffin Tin offers (red and green peppers were listed, but missing), but not a cop-out either - certainly plenty of trimmings and little appetising snippets. Prawn madras similarly, zinging-hot, nice flavour. A little underwhelming due to the use of those very small prawns (shrimps, to me) which reduce further upon cooking. I order normal prawns as often the expensive king prawns are not worth it if they're overcooked, and often it's hard for a delivery not to overcook them assuming the dish is piping-hot (as they will continue to cook in transit). However, my local Chinese (Fortune Gate) manages big, fat prawns of fantastic quality, perfectly cooked, every single time, in a £6 dish, so something to learn from there. Anyway, the food from Bombay Nights - all three dishes - was indeed piping-hot, and this is important to me as a customer. Special mention for the yellow lentils side, which were really flavoursome (seemed to have an element of cheese, which seems surprising, but really made the dish, flavour-wise). Paratha was fresh and portion sizes were fine. The food is robust and quite oily, but I have no problem with that; it shows they're doing it in the traditional manner of such dishes. That richness, combined with the fierce chilli spice, made for a satisfying meal. I'd...
Read moreDelicious. From Uber Eats; I got the Lucknow Lamb & Peas Samosa, Onion Bhaji and the Masala King Prawn Puri.
I have some points of improvement (these are just my personal opinions): One of the samosas didn't have much filling, please fix. Please add more samosa, they are nice but £4.50 is too much for just two small samosa. I wish the Masala had a bit more prawn, if I just had two more I would've been happy. The samosa and onions bhaji had this brown sauce, it was very nice but there was very little, please put more, maybe put in separate container? What is that sauce by the way? They all came with a slice of lemon but I never used them, if most customers don't then there's no point, saves you money and time, just keep in the salad. But if most customers do use them then never mind (this point isn't important).
If you fix these, I will change to 5 stars.
Good things: Food was still very hot when delivered. This is great and very important to me. Food was delicious Mint yogurt sauce...
