They have the best coffee in London and freshly baked sourdough bread. Some reviews say this place is pricey but it depends on the item. I would say the coffee is cheaper than London average and for the quality (and that it is a family-run business), it is extremely good value for money. The price of the sourdough bread is also acceptable (particularly the plain one - it goes up more when you add olives etc), and more so when considering it is made right in front of you and for the quality.
On Thursday evenings they have a VERY reasonably priced French-themed night by Marion. It feels like a supper club where Marion will prepare and serve you high quality cheese & meat platters, crepes and a superb wine collection, and also talk to you about the best cheese & wine pairings. Note they have a vegan platter available too. I enjoyed the French night so much and was so surprised at how cheap it was so gave a good tip. Great way to spend the evening, learn about French cuisine and sample great French wines. Definitely recommended.
UPDATE: they are no longer doing the French nights in the cafe and are instead offering a personalised cheese and wine delivery service if...
Read moreSuch a good local independently owned bakery and cafe. I enjoyed the service from the team and the care taken for each dish (not just mine). I noticed each brunch dish being made with care, presentation checked before it keft the kitchen, great hygiene habits, good team spirit with the staff, tables.being ckeared promptly. It was my sec8nd visit to thos bakery and eaxh time i am very impressed. Not only was my lunch (scrambled eggs with advocado on toast) was good, the.other dish ordered was equally well made and presented.
It is a relatively small inside dining area yet it feels spacious and is always clean.( In summer there maybe some opportunity to have seats outside as i noticed there were chairs stacked.)
Everything is so very fresh, baked on the premises. I was so impressed i had to buy two almond croissants to takeaway!
So what could be improved? The tea served should be in a teapot so a second cup could be had.Or hot water given to "top up" the first cup.
The pastries are fantastic and it would be great of they have more prominence in display.
Thats it. It is really good. I will vosit...
Read moreThis new bakery is an asset, however pricing/quality still needs a rebalance which I can only attribute to rent, start up costs and hopefully unwillingness to raise them at a later date.
For sourdough, the prices are perfectly reasonable. The loaf was nice but lacked flavour. The croissant was very different, thicker layers than normal making the contrast with the crust more interesting.
Vienoisserie is a little steep even for artisan London prices. I chase bakeries around London and the best French bakery selling croissants charges £2.20, the same place sells giant éclairs for £3.80.
Bread of Life charges £4.50 for an éclair, which is acceptable and cheap if it was of a certain standard, but what we got were the sad day old ones (éclairs should be eaten within hours of being filled or they go soggy).
Verdict: Not going to be a regular customer which is a shame because I'm the type of person to remortgage my house for the...
