Having such an incredible experience at the Clapham branch it saddens me to have to write a review for the Balham one. The restaurant in Clapham was what every restaurant should embody with good service, attentive waiters and waitresses and of course, delicious quality food. Well, I am quite upset that Brickwood was unable to keep consistency amongst their locations. I ordered a poached egg bacon bap and while I understand it was a takeaway order, you can tell that zero care was taken into consideration in terms of preparation. The bread was SO stale, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a few days old. That’s how hard it was, not to mention the only thing edible on it was about two strips of bacon and some of the egg. To top this off, the woman at the restaurant was incredibly rude and standoffish. She cut me off whenever I was inquiring about something in the shop and paid me no mind and ignored me while pretending to be busy behind the counter. This isn’t acceptable under any means on how you should treat your customers. If you do not enjoy interacting with humans, the simple option is to NOT work in customer service and hospitality. This is such a shame since I was so happy to find the Balham branch near me. Safe to say I’ll be bringing my business elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and get a coffee and breakfast across the alley from Blackbirds Bakery instead.

Great coffee but poor service. Orders are often forgotten and needs reminding. Same with asking for water. Best to get it yourself. Can vary with waiters, but, generally poor. Reason could be that most are students and not professionals. Generally, would recommend to get a takeaway coffee but avoid sitting in. It can be a long wait. Food is good too, especially the vegan options. Services seemed to have improved post-lockdown. The change is definitely for the better! Ruby and Leonie are great and so is T and the new barista. But, some temps are not really dedicated to the job. Some of their bakery addition looks great, like the Lamington (their banana bread and timtam muffins were a great hit with the children anyway). Also the savoury muffins. Their loyalty card app is again not a good one and rated badly by staff as well because it's very tricky to use. And no matter how many hot drinks you buy, the stamps get capped to 2 per day (unlike any other cafe). I hope they keep up the good work for good. I have now rated it as 4 stars- look forward to the 5 (please do change the loyalty card app).

Nice solid brunch location in Balham. The food was good and great portion sizes. My favourite was the Granola Yoghurt, I would definitely get that again and the mixed berries in it were amazing. I also got the Spicey Chicken & and Avocado Toastie which was really nice. I didn't expect it to be so big - very filling. Also, the Banana Bread lived up to expectations and is better toasted. I recommend all the dishes mentioned. Only slight negative would be that the avocado on the Smashed Avocado was a bit too watery, so it made the bread a little soggy. The service was good. They were quick to have us seated and ordering our food. The food didn't take long For more photos & videos, follow me on Instagram @oureatinglife_ I will be back and I'd like to try their smoothies next time.

I've been a happy customer for as long as you guys have been open, many years. Best brunch place in London, so it would make no sense to leave anything other than a 5 star review.

I'm leaving the review to give some feedback which I hope is easy to action. On deliveroo, when ordering a butcher, there should be a mandatory field to choose scrambled or poached egg.

I don't order delivery from you often, I come in to eat, but when I do and forget to specify, it spoils it to get poached, which I don't like.

I get that you can say "remember to specify in the free text" but at any other restaurant you order from on deliveroo where there's a choice you have to make about your meal, there's a field to choose between the 2.

SUBSEQUENT EDIT

Fair play to you guys, what can I say. I left this review a month or 2 ago, it's been changed on deliveroo already.

Your place is superb, but frankly I wasn't expecting that to be done, even by you guys.

Plus when I came in recently the guy who served me took the friendliness and warmth of service you've already had to even higher levels.

Would award 7 stars if I could, but I can't, so I'll just place another...
