I came to leave my own review until i see Bun & Sum are now paying for fake reviews left by bots!?
Hit 'Helpful 👍🏽' to my review so it gets pushed above all the fake reviews.
This place was rated 3.9 last week and now its 4.5 in 1 week - how so? Simply sort all reviews from newest to oldest, anybody with a profile that has less than 5 reviews is likely fake. There is a long list of reviews left in one go and has no comments, all those reviews need to be reported to Google by clicking on the 3 dots on the right of each comment.
What i can tell you is this, my 1 star review is genuine and here's why. I like to write detailed stories of my experience. So if you have time, hit helpful 👍🏽 grab a cuppa and read on.
The hype much earlier on must have been from people who have never had a smash burger before - seriously.
So i too followed the hype, travelled all the way from Ilford to Bow. I had ordered 25 mins in advance, upon arrival my food was still not ready. The person at the till couldn't find my order. He soon realised the tills printing paper was empty. As soon as he put the paper in, 12 odd orders printed along with mine in one go. He apologised and said my order will be prioritised. Thats a lot of people who are going to get their food late! But I waited patiently, mistakes happen.
Having waited a further 15 mins or so, i am still waiting for my food inside the premises. A guy walks in with an order and the bag half open. He claims he was given the wrong order. I then hear my name, they had given my food to someone else. I looked inside the bag and i see the loaded chips and mash are not covered. Its just placed in the bag.
Now i wasn't willing to accept an order that was not covered and touched up by another customer. I asked for the mash again, which was made for me again (more waiting).
I would have thought after all the troubles and waiting i been put through they'd offer me a free drink!? No.
On the topic of drinks, if you see the attached images - EXTORTIONATE. I get it, prices will be generally high. But for a small kitchen porter cabin under the railway arches in Bow offering takeaway - these prices cannot be justified. £5 for a glass bottle of coke!? 🤦🏽♂️
Moving onto the food, we ordered.
Green chilli cheese burger - £6.50 Easy Street burger - £6.50 Loaded Mash - £7.50 Smashed Potatoes - £4.75
Total came to over £25
The two burgers claim 2oz beef patties, they were thin as paper at £6.50 each.
Loaded Mash was not loaded with anything except for a lot of sauce. Tiniest chilli beef placed on top (see pictures), being the most expensive at £7.50 i was ripped off.
Smashed Potatoes were not 'smashed'. They're more like whole potatoes. No cajun seasoning or anything as described on the menu.
For an average sized guy like me, i was left so hungry i had to have dinner again at home.
This isn't just a 1 person review, my wife also agrees that Bun & Sum was the worst shes has ever had.
In fact, food aside i still can't believe we spent £25 on food which was worth no more than £8. Two cheese burger meals from a local chicken shop would do more justice.
It's fair to say i got Bumped at Bum & Sum.

Read moreAfter reading a plethora of positive reviews and seeing this joint splashed all over social media, I finally decided to give this place a visit.
I’ve been aware of the 50% discount offer that, for some reason, is always on.
After inspecting the menu on site, we ordered the chilli burger, single burger, motz burger, smashed potatoes and animal fries.
The food did not take long to arrive, around 15mins, which is well packaged and ready to eat on the spot. However, if you are looking to take this home you may have to ask for extra packaging.
The chilli burger, in terms of a chilli taste, did have that kick to it. However, the beef, along with the cheese, is probably cooked for a little too long, losing the tenderness and juiciness of the meat. The meat was also slightly crispy. The cut of meat may also be the issue here for the lack of flavour. The cheese was melted but I feel the type of chese used was not right and didn’t have any positive taste to it. The issues with the beef and cheese was the same across all three burgers, so this seems to be the way that they are cooked.
The smashed potatoes, a rather small portion, came unexpectedly very brown-looking and quite clearly overfried. I was expecting these to be fluffy, but I suppose I should’ve clarified this before ordering. They were also unnecessarily salty - too much salt on very few smashed potatoes. The animal fries tasted good, although could done with a bit more ‘animal’ (load it up more) The portion of the fries itself is fine.
Overall, I was pretty disappointed in the smashed burgers. There’s quite a few items to try on the menu but I feel quite discouraged how long they cook the meat for. I’ve had my fair share of smash burgers and I know when they are cooked to perfection. The fries are good but the smashed potatoes let me as a little side.
My thoughts are on the always 50% off the menu is that this is just a marketing ploy and the standard price is infact once the ‘discounts’ have been applied. From this, I also question the cut of meat used since the burgers are quite cheap. As one would know, a good quality meat used will mean a slightly higher price on the menu too.
I’m loathe to recommend this place, however for a quick cheap local bite this could be an appropriate spot, which is what is pushing me to rate Bun & Sum from 1 to 2 star. However, for a top quality burger, you may have to look for an...
Read moreWhen a burger has you craving more after the first bite, it is testament to how delicious that burger is and that’s exactly how Bun & Sum food left us feeling, so much so, Hubby ate all his share of the burgers immediately and then tried to take mine😂
We sampled pretty much everything from the menu:

The box is a BARGAIN - all that food for £26.25!!!!! Furthermore, they have some great offers on at the moment. Take advantage of them: 50% off collection & Salaam Eats, 20% off Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo.
We thorougly enjoyed our burger fest! I loved every burger. They were cooked perfectly - crusty edge and juicy middle, they just melt in your mouth. What we loved most about them was the fact that all the condiments used made the burgers taste different to eachother and added a depth of flavour. The meat used is fresh, which makes a massive difference. If I had to pick my favourite, I’d say Big S’Mac or Easy street.
The fries were divine! They’re cooked in beef dripping, which adds a delicious flavour. They were so addictive especially the cheeseburger fries.
The drinks were unique and spectacular in taste! I’ve never seen them anywhere. Absolutely loved it. When you order, don’t forget to add them! The Butterscotch flavour was insane
We absolutely loved our meal. My Hubby’s middle name should be ‘Burger addict’ as he loves his burgers a LOT. When he got into the car, he called me to say the car smells amazing because of the burgers & said he hopes we won’t get deet from how much he wants to eat them😂 He also mentioned - the fact that we reheated the burgers & they still tasted incredible says a lot about the burgers!
Overall, we were extremely impressed with the quality and taste of everything we tried!! I’d highly recommend their food and make the most of the offers they have...
