Feeling like fast food without the guilt of flesh on your plate? Look no further than Chickenish in west Walthamstow. It has all the hallmarks of a fried chicken shop (even a cheeky chicken character in the branding) but no meat, dairy or eggs used whatsoever! Really close in vicinity to St James Street overground, you'll find their shop on the upper floor of Crate - I didn't spot a lift so this may be a negative for accessibility. Nevertheless, if you're able, climb the stairs on the left side of the building and the shop will be immediately on your left. There's an extensive menu above head height of lots of different types of burgers, made of 'chicken' or 'beef' (the latter using Beyond Meat patties). You can also buy buckets with chicken-like pieces for that KFC style experience. There's a one-man-band in the shop taking orders as well as cooking the food. He's fairly friendly but it might be hard to hear him given the loud music coming out of the speaker just outside the shop. I went for a Sriracha burger because the Gochujang had run out. There wasn't much spice to it but that was okay as the burger was still full of flavour and had a good mass to it. Lots of fast food places rip you off with poor quality ingredients and not very much substance to their burgers, but not Chickenish - they had the proportion right on my visit. My burger was very filling and more than adequately satiated a hungry belly! A portion of cajun fries rounded off my meal which were crispy and well seasoned - a great complement to the burger. I picked up an alcohol-free beer from the Untraditional Pub on the same floor, towards the back of the Crate to tie up my very satisfying beer and burger experience. Lots of bench space and tables means it's easy to eat in. The DJ's music at Crate can be quite loud though making conversation difficult and for slightly unpleasant ambience while eating. There are unisex toilets on the upper floor and staff to pick up your finished meal and clean the tables so no worries about returning your tray. Overall, a great place to fill up when you're feeling a little junky and hunger levels are high. It's a cocky brand of fast food without the chicken. Recommended!

This place is absolutely fabulous! I ordered the hot honey burger and chips with gochujan mayo..... Phenomenal! As a former meat-eater, you would never know this is not chicken! Really full flavours, trendy location in Walthamstow (went there on a Friday afternoon and this has nothing to do with Chickenish but was surrounded by yummy mummys and a billion children screaming! - so don't go there in the afternoons if u wanna avoid screaming children) The 2 highlights for me were that the guy who runs it, is super sweet, super humble and cares about his food The second being.... No animals were harmed in making this delicious food! P.s love the funny literature too! Vegans, veggies, hell... Even meat-eaters, go there and lap up the scrumptious food! I'll defo be back!

If I didn't have the wings I would have put a 5vstar on food cause this was the best plant based chicken I've had. 100% recommending chicken bites. Unfortunately, I felt adventurous and tried the wings. Big fail!!! Especially it was 3 wings for 10 pounds. So so expensive for something really NoT TASTY! I am a big foodie and I honestly I am easy when it comes to food, bit I couldn't finish this dish and had to leave it.... so gutted for the price... on top of that, the person who was serving was not the nicest at all ... and I think in restaurants. service is as important as the food ....

We waited for almost 15 minutes for a guy to show up and take our order. We were the only ones there. The burgers were okay, we took og burgers, he also forgot to put cheese in them which I paid for. It is also super pricy and fries are not included with the burger. We couldn't ask him to add our cheese as he left straight after giving us our food before we could check.

Burger with fries is £17 which is so not worth it. Also they had no chicken bites which apparently this place is famous for. The atmosphere is nice, but the guy who served literally just wasn't there at all. We couldn't even ask to change our burgers to cheesy ones. Not a good experience as I read reviews and expected way more and got disappointed. Will...
