I felt like the staff took advantage of the fact we are tourists, with our American accents.
Separately, note that this restaurant is no longer a fully vegetarian restaurant. There are a variety of meat options on the menu as they have changed management three years ago.
I don’t eat onion and garlic, not uncommon in Indian Jain food. The food came out pretty mediocre. It was fine. Nothing I would come back for at all. Especially not with this price tag. The food was expensive for what it is. Our bill ended up being £72 and then the server asked if we will add something extra for the chef, who had to create food fresh to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Again, this is actually quite common for Indians who are Jain.
This was the first time ever I have been asked to leave a tip for the chef for just… doing his job? Are foods not usually cooked fresh nowadays? Are guests supposed to pay extra for chefs, cooking? After we added some extra tip for the chef, she asked if we are tourists from America. Yes, we are. Did you want us to tip even more because of that? We didn’t hear our server asking any other table for tip and where they’re from. Tipping isn’t the norm in europe like it is in the states.
We couldn’t help but feel like they only asked us because they know we’re not from here.
It really pisses me off how she asked for the tip. It wasn’t would you like to leave a tip for our service. It was legit to leave something for the chef for cooking us fresh food due to my dietary restrictions. She asked twice how we liked the food. The second time was when I was already out the door and outside of the restaurant. The food wasn’t good. I said it was fine both times. The fact she felt the need to ask me again when I’m already outside the restaurant at 10:15pm. She probably knew in her heart it wasn’t good yet she asked for us to tip for the food.
Never coming back again. No thank...
Read moreI can’t express enough how incredible this business is, both in terms of service and the kindness of the people who run it. I found myself lost and stranded with a dead phone, desperately needing to book an Uber to the train station so I could catch the last train back to Devon. Time was running out, and I was anxious to make it back in time to see my big brother before he leaves for his deployment—he serves in the army (SAS) and will be away for at least two years.
After being turned away by two restaurants, I was beginning to lose hope. As someone who is deaf, I was also worried that communication might be an issue, and I wasn’t sure if I would be understood. However, the moment I stepped into this restaurant, everything changed. The staff were incredibly welcoming and understanding. Without hesitation, they let me in and kindly allowed me to charge my phone. Not only that, but they even offered me a free drink while I waited! Their generosity and compassion meant the world to me in that stressful moment.
Thanks to their kindness, I managed to book my Uber and made it to the station just in time—by literally one minute—to catch the last train home. Because of them, I didn’t miss my chance to see my brother before he leaves, and for that, I will always be grateful.
This restaurant isn’t just a place that serves food; it’s a place run by genuinely kind-hearted people who go above and beyond for others. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for great service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I will absolutely be returning to enjoy a proper meal here soon!
Thank you again for everything—you made a real difference when I needed it most. ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️...
Read moreThis decor in the restaurant is in need of an upgrade as it feels like I went back in time to the 70s or 80s. The staff handed me a tatty laminated card as a menu and the prices were surprisingly expensive. Anyway I ordered a starter and two main dishes with rice. The main dishes were half portions compared to other restaurants and the rice was little more than two spoonfuls which was insulting. I paid nearly £50 for the bill for a meal which barely satisfied my hunger and left quite disappointed as the food was not of bad quality. It's only the very stingy quantity that was provided which was so disappointing. You would expect a reasonable amount of food for £50 regardless of living crisis. As the management seem baffled as to how the sum totalled nearly £50 I will offer a breakdown of the order as they claim even the most expensive dishes won't cost that amount. The exact amount was actually £48.51, so not far off the £50 mentioned. I have a card transaction to support this amount. Below is a list of items ordered 1 x chicken tikka starter 1 x Butter chicken 1x Chicken tikka masala 2 basmati rice 2 small bottles of water and 2 karak chai. The food was good but as mentioned the quantity was the issue. Hope this helps. Plus the decor was newly done? Really? I will leave that to prospective customers to decide. Anyway this is my honest opinion of the restaurant, others may not agree but that is my own...
