I must have gotten there on an off night because the food was a massive disappointment, perhaps the worst Indian food I’ve had anywhere in the world. It was compounded by the fact that I had such high expectations.
I walked down Drummond Street that morning on my way to Euston Station to watch football in the Black Country and thought I would try one of the many Indian restaurants on that street when I returned that evening. I ended up in Taste of India because it looked inviting and as I was looking at menu outside, someone came out and asked what I was looking to eat. So, I decided to go in. I thought, “How bad could it be?” Turns out pretty bad.
The papadam and Cobra were what you would expect, pretty hard to screw that up. I ordered the Tandoori lamb chops as a starter and the Lamb Rogan Josh. I explained to the waiter that I wanted it VERY VERY spicy - Vindaloo/Phaal Hot. Most restaurants understand this.
They both came out at the same time which was annoying, and it went downhill from there. The spices on the lamb chops were boring and they were unbelievably tough and overcooked. The Rogan Josh was most peculiar when I saw it, but I thought it was the restaurant’s variation. I’m thinking now it may have picked up someone else’s order because it had absolutely no spice whatsoever and was covered with cooked whole tomatoes. I left it pretty much uneaten.
If someone would have come by, I would have asked about it but alas no one did until I asked for the bill. He was not the least bit curious as to why I had left two lamb chops uneaten and barely touched my rogan josh, the rice or the naan.
I decided not to complain and simply pay my bill and leave. Hoping it was just an off night for the kitchen and the staff.
I gave the atmosphere 3 stars because it is like any other curry house.
Better luck next time...
Read moreAfter looking for a good Indian restaurant to eat at, we saw shah’s and this place had really good ratings. We decided that with taste of India having 3.9K reviews with a score of 4.6, my friend and I would eat here. Upon arrival, it was quiet as it was only 4:30 on a Friday, but the man that greeted us was pleasant enough (although we felt there was a couple of unnecessary jabs at us being northern) but none the less we took this as the banter we assumed it was and laughed along with it. When we received the food, I have to say it wasn’t the worst I’ve had but also by no means the best. It was average. The chicken was dry and the chips they served were luke warm and hard. None the less it was edible enough so I felt it would be a little harsh to complain at that point. Then we go onto the bill, after having a banter with the staff about a discount as we’re were from the place his favourite football team was from, he said he could only give us a discount of up to 40% if we paid cash which of course in this day and age is rare to carry cash. So we said we were just happy to pay the normal bill. On giving us the bill, he said he’d gave us a 10% discount and asked us to leave him a good review on Google there and then. When checking over the bill, it then came to light that in actual fact, he took £4.74 off the bill but then without even asking just automatically put a service charge (which we’re not America here) of £4.70 on the bottom, hoping we wouldn’t notice, so actually only discounted us 4p 🤣. The thing is, I was quite happily going to leave a tip anyway, but after seeing the cheek of just expecting it under false pretences, I soon changed my mind. When this was pointed out to him, his attitude changed dramatically and we soon became not even worth the time of day, So next visit will be shah’s. Check your...
Read moreLast night we had the pleasure of dining at The Taste of India in Euston, and I can confidently say it was an enjoyable experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Ali, the manager, who was an entertaining attentive host.
The food was simply outstanding. Two of us indulged in their thalis, which were beautifully presented and offered a delightful variety of flavours. Each component was perfectly spiced, showcasing the authenticity of Indian cuisine. Other family members opted for the chicken tikka dhansak - delicious, the korma - so tasty despite the mildness, chicken tikka masala - yum!, and the Staff Lamb curry - a standout dish, lamb shank in a rich, flavourful sauce that had just the right amount of heat.
Aside from the authentic food which is always the main draw, what also impressed me was the extra care Ali and his team took to interact with us and joke around with 12-year-old daughter. They were friendly, chatted with us without being intrusive and kindly offered her a mango juice on the house.
This was the second time we had visited as our visiting relatives from Melbourne had expressed an urge to return after we dined there previously when they visited London.
Overall, The Taste of India is a fantastic spot for anyone craving delicious Indian food paired with exceptional service. Thanks to Ali and the team for making our dining experience so special - we can’t wait to return!
Best wishes from Charlotte the Mango Princess and Liverpool Fan and her Mum Michelle the...
