I've been here twice now over the years. Once for the Rooftop Cinema which was just OK. If I'd wrapped up warmer it would have been better, but needing (tiny) headphones for the sound really detracts from a cinema experience.
Last month we saw some stand-up comedy which was surprisingly good. With COVID spacing of the tables and the open air setting I couldn't imagine stand up working - it's usually done in a packed room and I expected the comics to have trouble connecting with sparse audience and their words floating away in the air.
But no, it was "different" but still really funny.
Best was the headline act ventriloquist Nina Conti. A ventriloquist seemed sooo... vaudeville or something. Could it be funny in 2020? It was! Really funny. She seemed to be enjoying herself, she got the audience involved in an absolutely hilarious section. A great surprise.
