Whilst the food was actually pretty tasty, I have never had more of a car crash experience at a restaurant. The wine we ordered was out of stock, the mackerel order was accepted before being told later it was finished so instead we ordered the burrata, but out came ricotta as the burrata had run out (no one told us). So we went for asparagus salad (not many options left!) and there was one spear cut into pieces for £10. On to the mains and the pork chop was finished so three of us ordered steak bavette with smoked aubergine. Two hours after we arrived a slow cooked bit of beef arrived for two of us, they had completely forgotten to cook the third dish. We told them that wasn’t what we ordered and they said they switched the beef dishes without telling us. So we divided up the two beef dishes on to three plates using a side dish so we could all eat together. Still no sign of the aubergine. By the time we finished it was too late for desert. It felt like a pop up on its first night with no one knowing what on earth was going on. Ultimately I didn’t get a single dish I ordered! In the end quite funny to be part of a Faulty Towers sketch. I don’t think many would have been as accommodating. To be honest, paying £270 for four (£100 off)...
Read moreI knew this was going to be opening, but I did not realise that they had already opened since last March. I went with a friend for an unplanned Sunday lunch, and we arrived when the restaurant had not started the lunch service yet ( they start at 13 ). We had some chores to do, and were told they would accommodate us at 13 even though we had not booked in advance. We went back at 13, and I ordered the Comte croquette to start with, followed by the confit tomatoes, then the steak bavette with anchovy hollandaise and bone marrow, accompanied by an extremely nice house wine. The dessert I chose was the chocolate cremeaux with hazelnut, and, because I am greedy, I also ordered the briwn butter cake with crème fraiche and rhubarb. The service was very nice and the chef was very knowledgeable and friendly. The food is outstanding, and cooked with precision and flair, the quality of every ingredient is top notch, and the results are spectacular! This is honest, unfussy cooking at its best ! A very welcome addition to Clapham, and I feel very privileged to have such a place so close to my home. I can’t wait to go back...
Read moreVery disappointed! Weirdest and most pretentious restaurant experience I’ve had yet in London! This was on Valentine’s Day and when I arrived the hostess was asking people who made a booking if they could give up their tables to sit at bar with comped drinks because some woman at the bar had a hurt back and wanted a table. She even told me she didn’t believe the woman. Weird thing to say. Very strange staff. When we declined her request her demeanour changed. Waiter with orange dyed hair was lovely and helpful. Asked one of the wait staff to take our photo and he made weird gestures and was very unfriendly. Food was way overpriced. £20 for some grilled salad leaves. However, Gurnard was lovely. I think they charged £3.50 for one cheese croquette ball. I would give this place one star or none at all but 2 because the food was actually nice although it’s horrendously overpriced. Menu online is not the same as the...
