My original review was quite critical, but I have since become a weekly regular here. The food is delicious, and they continue to make improvements. My only outstanding complaint is the menu remains too small and could use more variety. However, what they do have on offer is high quality and consistent.

I also find the servers and atmosphere consistently pleasant. With a decent sound system and eclectic assortment of tunes, this oft-overlooked aspect of dining actually makes a marked difference.

Original review follows.

With Clapham High Street mostly being a litter of trash-tier fast food, gambling, clubs, bars and other degenerate debauchery, this appears as a welcome addition to the High Street, but at a cost.

Ramen is actually fast food in Japan, favoured by salarymen and locals alike, but this is presented as something more upmarket. At just 500 yen per bowl, the Japanese enjoy their ramen for less than a fifth of these prices. I am sympathetic to regional differences in supply chain costs, but 500%+ is steep. Moreover, the portions offered here are smaller than the stingiest bowl I could find anywhere in Japan, and I've travelled from Nagano to Kagoshima. The "large" bowl here has only two slices of pork, whereas I would expect a minimum of 3 in Japan. Their small bowl only has one. And you will pay circa £14 for the privilege here, plus service charge, plus another circa £4 if you want an ordinary serving of pork.

The food here isn't authentic, but it is nevertheless delicious. Yet again, if you go for the karaage (fried chicken), that's at least £5 just for a small, and a small is just 3 pieces. At over £1 per bite, the usury is a hidden ingredient that sours every mouthful.

In summary, they need to bump up their portions or reduce...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tonkotsu, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with exceptional hospitality that truly made me feel like a valued guest.

The staff at Tonkotsu went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of perfect. They were attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful recommendations and ensuring that all my needs were met.

But let's talk about the star of the show – the amazing chili chicken ramen. It was an explosion of flavor with every mouthful, perfectly balancing spicy heat with rich, savory broth and tender chicken. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the toppings added a wonderful depth of flavor to the dish. It was hands down one of the best bowls of ramen I've ever had!

Overall, my experience at Tonkotsu was absolutely fantastic. The combination of outstanding hospitality and delicious food made for a dining experience that exceeded all expectations. I can't wait to return and indulge in more of their incredible offerings. If you're a fan of ramen, Tonkotsu is an...

The ramen was incredibly bland. I like my ramen SPICY. So I ordered the geki kara expecting a spicy, flavourful ramen dish, but was incredibly disappointed when I tasted the dish. The soup was just salty with no flavour, the roast pork was again bland. The only saving grace was the chilli oil condiment that made the food taste better. They might as well take out the scotch bonnet mash from the ingredients because it is non existent when you taste it.

Then to make matters worse, I got a stomachache, nausea and diarrhea the next morning. We went to the restaurant in the late evening. It was the only food I ate before bed and the last thing I ate before the ramen was my lunch in the afternoon. So I think that the ramen is the culprit here.

However, the place is beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere with kind and polite staff. The ginger soda...

I was not expecting the ramen to taste as nice as it did! I got the small pork tonkotsu bowl, which was still a very generous portion and I was completely satisfied after the meal. My boyfriend got the current special pulled pork ramen and said it was very nice (he was unable to finish his bowl, so bear in mind the very generous portions!). My tonkotsu was very nice and creamy, with a generous amount of very soft chashu pork. I recommend getting the kimchi on the side, it was excellent with the tonkotsu but may be too acidic for some people. The person who served us was Gabby, who was very welcoming, attentive, and was honest with her recommendations which is a quality I very much admire in a server. The food came out very quickly too. Overall I very much reccomend coming here and I will definitely be coming back :)

The restaurant is conveniently located at the heart of Clapham Common High Street. Quite a nicely and modern decorated place. I had Geki Kara, and the ingredients used were OK. It was spicy but not incredibly too spicy to make you sweat. Hmm just a little salty for for my liking though. The chilli tofu ramen was also OK. All in all, the experience was not too bad, but nothing that has blown me away. For obvious reason, I wish they also covered their chilli oil jars on the table. I must say there were a lot of people eating there at lunch. I'm grateful for the unlimited carbonated water served by their friendly staff. Their toilets are the cleanest, I must say.
