My first visit to this fine establishment came by invitation from a dear friend. Since its founding in 1958, Maharani has stood as a cherished landmark of authentic Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, right in the heart of South London. From the outside, it may appear to be a typical Indian restaurant, but step inside and you are greeted by a stylishly modern décor that sets it apart. Even more exciting, the owner shared plans for a complete refurbishment, which will introduce a fresh, contemporary ambience while preserving the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to culinary excellence. Our party of four embarked on a memorable culinary journey guided by recommendations from our generous host and the accomplished manager, Alex—a Scotsman delightfully at home running an Indian curry house. We began with starters of crispy Bengali Fried Sardines and succulent Lamb Shashliks served with fluffy Peshwari Naan. The main courses were simply outstanding: a beautifully slow-cooked Parsi Lamb Dhansak, a rich and flavourful Chittagong King Prawn Bhuna, and an array of classic sides including Tarka Daal, Saag, and crisp Bhajis. Each dish was faultless—bursting with authenticity and flavour. Equally impressive was the service. The waitstaff went above and beyond—whether because we were special guests or simply a reflection of their natural hospitality, it made the evening all the more special. Altogether, it was an unforgettable dining experience—Maharani truly lives up to its reputation, and I left with both my appetite and my heart deeply satisfied. Ahmed...
Read moreThis restaurant is totally fraud for me because as a Indian I know the Indian food exactly I just been there n order chicken chaat and a kebab as a starter first of all they took 25 minutes to have it and when they serve the petition was too small as compare to their prices the kebab was just like thin paper rolls n chicken chaat was a fully covered with salad Just spoons of chaat In between I ordered main Saag paneer Cucumber raita
So they took nearly 25 minutes to make it ready I ignored it Then they served main as I watched saag paneer believe me it was look like they just chopped two leafs of mustard in full bowl of mozzarella and cucumber raita was they just put three four small pieces of cucumbers in small portion of sweet yogurt so I want to tell those people how to make cucumber raita exactly
Totally awkward and shameful First we need plain yogurt not sweet because raita is never sweet Need a cucumber grate it Mix in yogurt Putt two specific spices Garam masala And salt or any other spice you like to add in
In conclusion
They are looting your money Guys believe me They charge you lot n serve you like nothing and Nothing I had...
Read moreOn the 16th May 2025, I had the privilege of dining at the Maharani Indian (Bangladeshi) restaurant on a Friday evening. The table was booked as a celebration to mark my birthday! I haf one special guest join me. Coincidentally, a large gathering of young adults were booked the same evening so it was a little challenging at first to exchange conversation. However, a very kind & responsive young waiter understood our needs and facilitated a rather fantastic private dining experience toward the rear of the restaurant. It was a perfect environment for a proper catch up. We then also enjoyed the proprietor's son, Akbor's company too for part of the evening. A charming gentleman who now runs the establishment and is truly a warm, decent person. The food was delicious for me, and although my friend found the chicken korma "a bit too sweet" (which would have been perfect absolutely for me) we had a sumptuous meal that evening. The staff were attentive and kind and a facilitated a night to remember! A lovely ambience. Private yet also buzzing too..I highly recommended the Maharani a dining experience. THANK YOU Akbor and colleagues. I...
