I visited this restaurant on 22nd March to celebrate a milestone birthday with family members. The restaurant was buzzing and full of diners all having a good time, chatting and laughing, including our group. We ordered our starters which came out timely, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We were really enjoying the atmosphere and ordered generously from the food, wine and cocktail menus as it was a special ocassion. Whilst we were eating our main course, a member of staff came over to our table who appeared to be the manager. Whilst at our table, he asked our group to keep the noise down. I was extremely perplexed as to why he came over to our group to specifically ask us to keep the noise down , despite the restaurant having audible background music playing, being full of diners, some diners being in groups, all laughing and talking. At this point, our group could only come to the conclusion that we were being singled out due to our ethnicity, being Black .We were the only group booking of colour. We unanimously stopped eating our meal and asked for the bill immediately and requested that the bottle of wine we had purchased minutes before being singled out to be placed in a takeway bag to take with us.
I would like diners of ethnicity to be aware when exploring to eat at this restaurant as you too could experience such treatment.
After our unpleasant experience at Olive and Meze, we visited Cafe Sol, a Mexican Restaurant also on Clapham High Street, and was greeted with great hospitality, friendly staff and management, who came over to our table to check if we required any further assistance. The management even wished me Happy Birthday and gave me a free glass of bubbly. I wished I had started off...
Read moreWent to this restaurant very recently with five of my sisters, all middle aged professional black women.to celebrate my youngest sister turning 50. The restaurant was very noisy and packed when we arrived and throughout the duration of our visit. I observed the manager to walk up and down the restaurant and hover near our table several times without asking any questions pertaining to our meal or experience there. Additionally, the lights would dim and brighten inconsistently over our heads, causing negative impact on my sister who is visually impaired. I can't remember what the food tasted like, as the taste left immediately when the manager came to our table whilst we were nearing the end of our main course and asked if we could keep the noise down. We were all shocked and flabbergasted, as we were laughing and giggling like all of the other diners and feel that our group was most definitely singled out. At this point we got the bill and left immediately. Will not be visiting this place again and advise any persons of colour to beware of this place as you may be targeted when "dining whilst black" If I could give this zero stars I would but there is no...
Read moreBelow average restaurant. We ordered the lamb shish and lentil soup. The food was good but the portions were way too small. We both left feeling hungry. I noticed other people were complaining about that. The sides of my order were particularly small, more precisely - child size. I guess they are trying to do what is profitable for them. But if they think people won't notice - sadly for them we did. Apart from what I mentioned, we ordered one cocktail and a bottle of water. The bill came so expensive as if we were dining in a fine dining restaurant. Considering what we ordered and the service offered, we payed way too much. Sorry only 2 stars because of poor service and small portions. Would not recommend Update: the management replied at some point saying that the prices are in line with the local competitors. That may be but they still may serve larger portions and have better service. Our waitress was not welcoming and never smiled. We were not asked if we would like to order desert or something else at the end. The best way to describe it is : the service was robotic. Clearly the service can be improved and staff can be...
