Delly's West Norwood — Restaurant in London

Stopped in on Friday 19th July at around 5:30 PM to line my belly before heading to a nine night. I walked in and said good evening to the guy behind the counter however he ignored me, couldn’t be bothered to even look up and acknowledge me which was a bad start. I asked for a beef patty and his response was ‘we don’t have any’ and he continued to do whatever he was doing, he still hasn’t even looked up to acknowledge me. I asked him what patties they do have and he said “only cheesy beef”, so I said I’d take one of those, still hasn’t looked up to properly acknowledge me. I don’t know why if they didn’t have beef he didn’t just offer me a cheesy beef? He turned around to take the patty round the back to microwave it and said something while his back was turned so I said “sorry I didn’t hear you” as I obviously assumed he was talking to me, and his response was “I’m not talking to you I’m on the phone” (he had an in ear headset on). It gets worse. I had a look at the menu while he was warming the patty and saw they had red peas soup which would have prepared for me a night of inevitable heavy drinking at the nine night, so when he came back with the patty I asked him if they had soup ready and he bluntly responded ‘no’, still without looking at me. The service from start to finish wasn’t just bad, I came away feeling utterly disrespected. Looking back I should have told him to keep the patty and walked away with my money. I don’t know why your staff think it’s acceptable to treat customers this way but I would advise that if you’re serious about your business that you look into it. It was appalling...

I used to like going to dellys but I must say I feel the actual range of food on offer is not very good how it’s displayed in that small glass cabinet is not really appealing at all not enough salad options and not every body wants rice what about some potato options as well and to top it all the salt fish fritters are so small now and they want 50p for each one i think that’s going to far also where’s the rices and names of the items so customers don’t have to keep asking what’s that and how much This shop I think needs a little bit more love and attention like your one in Camberwell

So I decided to give delly's a try again and was actually surprised as they now have a price board up at last, the customer service has always been ok but now I find that the young man who serves is great at his job and very polite and very helpful with the menu etc. Also the soup has gone back to being great with just enough pepper and lovely flavour as well, well worth the money and portions are on point. The lunch time special is a must and like that it comes with water great idea. All in all its now gets a four star would get five if the card reader for payment was covered in some way so people behind can't see what is being entered but other than that great place to go to and get food well done to delly's in...

Appalling. First I was served rice and peas with jerk chicken and when I mentioned that I hope there is not too much sauce, it was uncovered to reveal rice swimming in at least two table spoons of sauce and the chicken was floating in it. I audibly gasped and was so released I'd said something before leaving. I apologised for not stating requirements before, (but I doubt any anyone would have been happy with it) and I was given a fresh, drier, portion. I observed that the container felt extremely light for a meal I'd just paid £10 for but kept it moving, hoping for the best. Arriving home my suspicions were confirmed and I opened the container to reveal the tiniest portion of chicken, consisting of a very small chicken leg (two bites worth) and a rib. I don't know if the person who served it had Napoleon complex or what but as a grown woman I expect to be treated like one. I paid for an adult size meal and expected an adult sized portion, namely, leg/thigh. The rice was soooooo dry and kidney beans crumbling and clearly not cooked that day. I think the original sauce overkill was to disguise this fact......Dellys, you guys are taking the 'p' and have no respect for your patrons. My fault for coming back.
