Patty King — Restaurant in London

This is a great food shop, Im barely in south London anymore but I was passing this Saturday and noticed this shop due to there signage, their branding stood out from the rest straight away and told me there's been significant investment into the brand thus belief in there product so I thought I must try. These times I just brought some jerk chicken from my usual shop!!! But though a patty also won't hurt.

When I walked in front of house was very clean no mess on tables, the floor was clean, the food cabinets were clean, just looked fresh and clean and the b.o.h looked clean too, so I have confidence my food was prepared in a hygienic environment. I spoke to a gentleman in a shirt which I presumed was a manager or owner who serviced me (He never let me wait for the uniformed staff to serve me!!!) and I asked how long has he been here, when he said 5yrs I was shocked the furnishing in there look new!!! So I know it's well kept. I've been to other Caribbean food shops and even when I walk in to the major chains the majority look run down and in need of a refurbishment, but Patty King looks fresh and clean.

The food was very good, the chips were hot and cooked to order, which I prefer to wait for instead of paying for cold chips. The patty itself was too thin for me and i would prefer more pastry, I got a cheesy beef and the cheese was oozing out the patty, and most importantly u can taste the cheese and a hint of pepper. The fridge cabinet was well stocked with a variety of drinks, the food cabinets they were full and well stocked, and I was tempted to buy a sweet, but I had food from earlier and bought more then the patty I initially went in for. I believe I spent just over a fiver and received, a cheesy beef patty, coco bread, chips, dumpling and a drink, good value for money.

The service was friendly and efficient, the conversation made the cooking time fly pass. They had sufficient amount of staff, I never waited long to be served, the guy helped me with my order and my order was processed correctly and I received what I paid for. I recently stopped going to all food shops I receive bad service for because I am not paying for rude service, but this was far from it.

In all this is a fast food operation focusd on patties with other snacks available. Also there's a sitting area and free parking. Even though the patty weren't my favourite it weren't bad, all food is subjective so can't really knock it. But I definite will be returning due to the exceptional service and...

Every time I visited the shop I keep telling to withdraw money from the ATM because the card machine only take less than £35 . I have always spent over £70 and sometimes more. The first time have been there I had to go and get cash back from supermarket which is not a good experience. The other time Moses made my experience really bad as he pushes me to go and withdraw my money from the ATM in order to get service. On the 25/2/23 I went there with my families to purchase some patties and other items and I was bombarded in the shop to go and withdraw money to purchase my products. Other wise they won’t serve me. I had to use three bank cards to purchase the products and yet still 2 patties were missing when I went out of the shop. I asked for curried goat and I asked what peas was in the rice and I got a rude answer to say “is only one peas we do” I contacted the shop on the same day regarding my missing patties and I was told Moses was not there he went for 10-15 minutes outside. I had to be calling back from then until now. No apologies regarding the service. I called Monday the 27/2/23 @around 2:10 pm and I was told that Moses were not in and it was a different cheff in . I waited over 30 minutes in the shop for my patties to baked and when I got them not even my children don’t find them tasty. The patties were so soft at the back. I keeps calling regarding my missing goods and seems not getting no where. If this place don’t look about there will be a lot of loss. The bad thing about it is to know that to reach to the shop it takes me 1hour and always unhappy. I am still waiting for my refund and it lost in the sene as I will not travel 1 hour to get it.

IF THE CARD MACHINE ONLY CAN TAKE LESS THAN £35 PER CARD THERE SHOULD BE A NOTICE FOR THAT

IF THE BANK CHARGES MORE FOR £30 OF PURCHASING ON A CARD NOT MY BUSINESS

CUSTOMER SERVICE REALLY BAD WITH SOME OF THE LADIES THERE

THE PATTIES DONT TASTE THE WAY THEY WERE BEFORE.

Patty king! What can I say, it’s all in the name! No doubt that they are definitely the King of patties! In my opinion the closest patties that you will get to a Jamaican patty. The crust is flaky and just melts in your mouth.Hat’s off to whomever is making them! The filling is full and on point. I usually order a vegetable one and I’m never disappointed. Service in the past was extremely slow but they have improved of recently and are delivering a much faster service nowadays, but always expect to see a queue because they are high in demand. I’ve also ordered the jerk pasta which is nice. Not too hot and decent portion sizes. Their fruit and carrot cake slices is also nice, very moist, sadly I can’t say the same for their sponge cake which I ordered once and would never order again as it was bone dry, then again I haven’t seen it on the menu there in a while. Their sugar bun is yummy! It was off the menu for some time but I’m glad it’s back again! Please patty king don’t remove it in the future as it’s very nice, not too sweet and flavourful. Callaloo is very nice but the only issue is you find it hasn’t been stripped… I find this strange and maybe something management needs to look into. No one likes to eat callaloo and be pulling pieces of it out of their teeth. Of recently staff have been in uniform which is nice, professional I guess, I see them in hair nets also. They have a large range of drinks on the menu, my favourite is the tru-juice guava pineapple flavour which must be a favourite of many as it’s hard to catch it. I haven’t had any meal such a jerk chicken and rice and peas, porridge or soup of the day so I can’t comment on those things, but maybe one day. Overall Patty king is a gem, I refuse to eat patties from anywhere else as I know I won’t be getting any better, and for this reason I am happy to give them a 5 star review.
