Visited Eleana’s Bistro in Hampton Wick this morning for brunch with a friend and our kids. The food was really nice, and I enjoyed my breakfast, but there were a few things that put me off.
For a play friendly cafe there were elements that I felt were not so kid/customer friendly. My 5 year old wanted to have the kids poached eggs on toast with a side of fruit instead of the beans, but they were unwilling to accommodate this even though all of the items were available on the menu.
The menu in the restaurant also didn’t match the one on their website - not a big deal but the dish I originally wanted wasn’t available, so I asked for a small substitution (halloumi instead of chorizo), but they also refused. I wasn’t too fussed and picked something else, but I found them quite inflexible in general.
Another issue was with a display lunchbox with animal designs—my friend’s child accidentally ripped it, but somehow, I got the blame. Before mum-shaming it would be good if staff made sure they were addressing the right parent. Also, if you don’t want kids touching something, maybe don’t leave it out in a play-friendly café / put up high?
That said, the play area was a great touch, and the food was good. I just felt the overall attitude was a bit snooty and not particularly customer-centric, warm or accommodating. I’ll probably return because it’s a good spot for kids and the food was enjoyable, but the overall vibe could definitely be...
Read moreHad been before with my boyfriend on a Saturday evening and we had really enjoyed the service, food and it had a nice buzz. The boyfriend went back for a business breakfast meeting and enjoyed it again.
Decided to go again with my friend on Thursday night and sadly we were the only table. Service was great. Food was ok which surprised me. The Falafel starter was very dry and accompanied salad too tarty. Pork Tacos were ok, too many chips, very little salad and tarty too. Not sure why food wasn’t up to scratch as previous experience food was very good.
We would like to see this local restaurant thrive but I think they need to think outside of the box to bring people into the restaurant on weekdays. I hope they come up with events, evening deals, perhaps make a section of the restaurant into a chillout bar area where people can come have drinks and maybe some tapas style greek food.
Also, though decor is nice enough….it’s a bit too sparse for me and could do with reconfiguring the table layout. Too clinical not enough warmth.
I will be back to try brunch, I hope the experience will be better than this one as I do want to see them succeed. And hope to see them come up with some ideas to improve their...
Read moreHaving moved to Hampton Wick at the start of the year I can safely say that Eleana’s is by far the best place in Hampton Wick for coffee, breakfast or lunch for that matter.
The owners are incredibly friendly, attentive and love the Hampton Wick community. It’s clearly a place for all the locals that live nearby, coming in for a little chit chat with friends or for a quiet coffee alone with a book.
Whenever I have visitors we come here after a stroll in Bushy Park and are always welcomed by great service and good food. It just has a really unique homely vibe that is hard to fault.
If you’re a coffee lover, the flat whites are always perfectly balanced and if you like your eggs in the morning you will not be disappointed. Plenty of options, all very good indeed.
Vs. The coffee guy in Kings Park around the corner, the White Hart next door or the 1910 coffee shop opposite, I still prefer coming here for my caffeine fix and would therefore...
